Continental accumulation of fads2 copy numbers allows sticklebacks to thrive across a diversity of nutritional landscapes

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Nutrients, including vital organic compounds, vary in availability across ecosystems, with the potential to act as a source of selection for traits that increase nutrient acquisition and biosynthesis. Compared to freshwaters, marine ecosystems are richer in the omega‐3 long‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (n‐3 LC‐PUFA) docosahexaenoic acid (DHA ...

Proximity‐Induced Transfer of a Mass Tag Enables Direct Profiling of Active Matrix Metalloproteases

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 24, 8 June 2026.
A proximity‐induced, mass‐encoded activity‐based protein profiling (ABPP) approach transfers a MALDI‐detectable α‐cyano‐4‐hydroxycinnamic acid (CHCA) tag directly to active proteases. This tag enables the direct, multiplexed, and quantitative detection of enzyme activity in complex proteomes without enrichment or purification.

Nanoparticle polymeric micellar paclitaxel compared with paclitaxel for advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesPrecision Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
The nanoparticle polymeric micellar paclitaxel plus nedaplatin regimen demonstrates superior efficacy and tolerable toxicities compared to the paclitaxel–nedaplatin combination as a first‐line treatment for advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Combined Effects of Cyclic Heat Stress, Dietary Induced Oxidative Stress and Different Levels of Antioxidant on Gut Fermentation Activity and Mucosal Morphology in Broiler Chickens

open access: yesAgriculture, 2023
The gastrointestinal tract of broilers is susceptible to oxidative stress induced by heat stress (HS) and diet, which can be mitigated by the supply of exogenous vitamins and antioxidants. The aim of this study was to compare the extent of the effects of

Demographic buffering in natural populations: A multi‐level perspective

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We introduce a multi‐level framework that unites stochastic elasticities with nonlinear selection to test demographic buffering. Applying it across mammals reveals a key insight: ecological robustness to variability often decouples from evolutionary constraint, reshaping how we understand resilience under environmental stochasticity.

Extreme Silk Toughness in Caerostris Spiders Is Limited to Adult Females

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We ask whether species with exceptionally tough silk, like Caerostris bark spiders, show different developmental patterns in silk toughness between ontogenetic stages and sexes. We found that only large females produce exceptionally tough silk with higher initial stiffness, while juvenile females as well as adult and juvenile males produce inferior ...

Ablation of lipocalin-2 reduces neuroinflammation in a mouse model of Krabbe disease

open access: yesScientific Reports
Lipocalin-2 (LCN2) is an acute-phase secretory molecule significantly upregulated in various neuroinflammatory and demyelinating conditions. Krabbe disease (KD) is a neurodegenerative lysosomal disorder caused by a galactosylceramidase (GALC) deficiency,

Novel bioreactor internals for the cultivation of spore‐forming fungi in pellet form

open access: yesEngineering in Life Sciences, 2022
This study introduced an automated long‐term fermentation process for fungals grown in pellet form. The goal was to reduce the overgrowth of bioreactor internals and sensors while better rheological properties in the fermentation broth, such as oxygen ...
