Mandatory Labelling or Import Ban?: Two-Country Trade with Biotechnology Products [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper examines trade and welfare effects of biotechnology. While biotechnology lowers production costs, it also lowers perceived quality of products. Without labelling, consumers cannot distinguish between biotechnology and conventional products. In

The PTTG1/VASP axis promotes oral squamous cell carcinoma metastasis by modulating focal adhesion and actin filaments

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
VASP was found to be overexpressed in metastatic oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues. Notably, PTTG1‐ and VASP‐deficient OSCC cells demonstrated suppressed metastatic properties by disrupting the interaction between the cytoskeleton and focal adhesion (FAs) in the filopodia region.

Does New Zealand have an innovation system for biotechnology? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
While there is a large and growing international literature on economic aspects of biotechnology innovation (e.g. work by Carlsson, McKelvey, Orsenigo, Zucker and Darby) these studies concentrate on the United States and Europe.

Obesity alters the fitness of peritumoral adipose tissue, exacerbating tumor invasiveness in renal cancer through the induction of ADAM12 and CYP1B1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...

A Strategic Investment Framework for Biotechnology Markets via Dynamic Asset Allocation and Class Diversification [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
In this paper, we propose an innovative investment framework incorporating asset allocation and class diversification oriented specifically for the biotechnology industry. With growing interests and capitalization in multiple biotech markets, investors require a more dynamic method of managing their assets within individual portfolios for optimal ...

MicroRNAs in seminal plasma are able to discern infertile men at increased risk of developing testicular cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Male infertility is a known risk factor for the development of testicular cancer. In this paper, we analyzed the expression profile of a microRNA panel by real‐time PCR and validated the results by digital PCR. Experimental and bioinformatics analyses allowed us to identify possible biomarkers able to discern men with a higher risk of developing ...

Multiple sclerosis clinical decision support system based on projection to reference datasets

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 1863-1873, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objective Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a multifactorial disease with increasingly complicated management. Our objective is to use on‐demand computational power to address the challenges of dynamically managing MS. Methods A phase 3 clinical trial data (NCT00906399) were used to contextualize the medication efficacy of peg‐interferon beta‐1a vs ...

Biotechnology of Coconut

open access: yesJournal of Horticultural Sciences, 2007
Biotechnology of coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) is a relatively recent area compared to similar work in other crops. It started as tissue culture in the eighties, which led to the development of molecular markers in late nineties with the use of RAPDs ...
