Autochthonous bioaugmentation with non-direct degraders: A new strategy to enhance wastewater bioremediation performance

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2020
Autochthonous bioaugmentation (ABA) strategies are primarily carried out using a single, highly efficient type of bacteria that is capable of directly degrading the target compound. However, no studies have examined the use of non-direct degraders (NDDs),

4-(4-Nitrophenoxy)biphenyl

open access: yes, 2009
The two phenyl rings of the biphenyl unit of the title compound, C18H13NO3, are almost coplanar [dihedral angle 6.70 (9)°]. The nitrophenyl ring, on the other hand, is significantly twisted out of the plane of the these two rings, making dihedral angles ...

The Role of Ultra‐Thin Buffer Layers for Achieving Ultra‐Low Dark Currents in Single‐Component Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, SubNc single‐component organic photodiodes (SC‐OPDs) are investigated, which achieve highly competitive performance metrics, including high EQE, ultra‐low JD, and high specific detectivity (D*). This study emphasizes the critical role of an organic buffer layer in studying the interface energetics and effects to achieve state‐of‐the‐art ...

Microbial Degradation Products from Biphenyl-related Compounds

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1986
A soil isolate, strain S93B1, identified as Pseudomonas cruciviae could grow on more than ten biphenyl-related compounds including p-chlorobiphenyl.Biphenyl was converted to benzoic acid and γ-benzoylbutylic acid. Mono-substituted biphenyl compounds such as o-bromobiphenyl, p-chlorobiphenyl, o-nitrobiphenyl and m-nitrobiphenyl were converted to o ...

Invisible Polymer Walls Enhance Reorientational Optical Nonlinearity in Oligothiophene‐Doped Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The polymer wall stabilized dye‐doped liquid crystals (PWLCs) enhance the sensitivity of photoinduced molecular reorientation in dye‐doped LC systems. The PWLC with an invisible polymer wall successfully reduces the threshold intensity and functions as an optical limiter under the incidence of low intensity light laser source.
