The Effect of Biphosphonate on Induced Heterotopic Bone
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1991HEBP (1-hydroxy, ethylidene-1, 1-biphosphonate) inhibited mineralization and was observed in matrix-induced heterotopic bone in rabbits. In one group of rabbits, HEBP was administered continuously until sacrifice 20 weeks after the operation. Another group of animals received HEBP for the first four weeks only.

[Biphosphonates in children: present and future].
Archives de pediatrie : organe officiel de la Societe francaise de pediatrie, 2002Biphosphonates are synthetic analogs of the natural pyrophosphate molecule, introduced primarily for the treatment of Paget disease of bone. Their main mechanism of action consisting in an inhibition of osteoclastic activity is critical for treatment of disorders including an increased bone resorption. In childhood osteoporosis (especially osteogenesis

Biphosphonates and osteonecrosis of the jaw
2012During the early 19th century, it was discovered that adding yellow (now called white) phosphorous to matchstick heads made it easier to ignite matches. The phosphorous vapors were breathed in by workers and combined with other chemicals in the body to produce a potent nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate. Today's oral nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates

[The treatment of renal lithiasis with biphosphonates].
Archivos espanoles de urologia, 2008Current treatment of hypercalciuria is still controversial, not being recommended calcium restriction since it may cause a negative balance with important consequences to bone metabolism. In adults, the use of biphosphonates (sodium alendronate) has shown a good response.

[Osteolytic metastases of breast cancer and biphosphonates].
La Revue de medecine interne, 1992Three-quarters of breast carcinomas at an advanced stage display metastases, usually of the osteolytic type. Osteolysis results from a predominant increase of osteoclastic activity stimulated by humoral or local factors secreted by cancerous cells. Bisphosphonates interfere with osteoclasts and therefore can reduce the osteolysis.
