Nonlinear optical loop mirror with low birefringence twisted fiber in the loop

Optics Communications, 1998
Abstract The fiber loop mirror constructed from low-birefringence twisted fiber was numerically examined. Nonlinear ellipse rotation effect has been taken into account. Nonlinear switching has been found for the balanced configuration with a 0.5/0.5 coupler.

Sensitivity dependence of fiber loop mirror on the length of high birefringence fiber

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2016
Abstract A model of fiber loop mirror with the distinct concepts of sensing length and total length is established. The sensitivity dependence of fiber loop mirror on the sensing length and total length is discussed theoretically and experimentally.

Multiwavelength fiber laser based on a high-birefringence fiber loop mirror

Laser Physics Letters, 2006
In this letter, we propose a novel multiwavelength fiber laser based on fiber loop mirror formed by a high-birefringence fiber, a polarisation controller, and a 3 dB directional coupler. By setting the polarisation controller as half-wave-plate, the fiber loop mirror acts as a polarisation-independent wavelength filter; Erbium-doped fiber (EDF ...

Temperature compensation for high-birefringence fiber loop mirror

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
We propose a novel temperature compensation method that HBF is mounted on a piece of organic glass. It can lessen its temperature sensitivity to 0.059 nm/K, which are two orders of magnitude lower than that of an uncompensated HBF loop mirror. It is feasible that HBF loop mirror packaged with a large thermal-expansion material is insensitive to ambient

A hydrophone based on high-birefringence fiber loop mirror

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
A new type of hydrophone based on high-birefringence fiber loop mirror (HiBi-FLM) is proposed and demonstrated. The sensing part is a section of high-birefringence fiber wound onto a hollow metal cylinder fiber. A narrow band light source is used and the detection is done by measurement of light intensity.

Multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser with a high-birefringence fiber loop mirror

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO 2000). Technical Digest. Postconference Edition. TOPS Vol.39 (IEEE Cat. No.00CH37088), 2000
Summary form only given. With the rapid development of wavelength-division-multiplexed systems in optical communication, multiwavelength laser sources have attracted considerable interest. Several types of multiwavelength rare-earth-doped fiber lasers have been demonstrated, which differ in the wavelength-selection methods used.

Ultralow birefringence measurement in optical fibers by use of a fiber optical loop mirror

Technical Digest. Summaries of papers presented at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics. Postconference Edition. CLEO '99. Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (IEEE Cat. No.99CH37013), 2003
Summary form only given. Most experimental techniques proposed to measure fiber birefringence use a section of a fiber with a length of several beat lengths. These techniques are convenient for high-birefringent fibers, but it is difficult to use them for low-birefringent fibers.

High-Birefringent Fiber Loop Mirror Sensors With an Output Port Probe

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2011
Two new configurations of high-birefringent fiber loop mirror with an output port probe are proposed. The two configurations used two couplers spliced between them with unbalanced arms and one output port is used as the probe sensor. The difference between them is that the section length of high-birefringent fiber is located between the two couplers ...

A pressure sensor based on high-birefringence fiber loop mirror

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
In this paper, a pressure sensor based on high-birefringence fiber loop mirror (HiBi-FLM) is proposed and demonstrated. The high-birefringence fiber is pasted to an inflated, elastic, ring shaped rubber gasbag and served as a sensitive probe. When outside pressure changes, the volume of the gas in the ring rubber gasbag changes and it makes the ...

Fiber optic sensors based on birefringence fiber loop interferometer

17th Congress of the International Commission for Optics: Optics for Science and New Technology, 1996
A high-birefringence polarimetric fiber sensor [1] typically includes a single mode polarization preserving fiber, an output polarizer and a detector. Two independent orthogonally polarized modes are propagating within the fiber and their phase difference may depend on pressure, temperature or other external parameters.
