High-birefringence fiber loop mirrors and their applications as sensors

Applied Optics, 2005
The reflection and transmission characteristics of a high-birefringence fiber loop mirror (HiBi-FLM), which is composed of a standard fiber coupler and one-section or multisection high-birefringence fibers (HBFs), are analyzed and discussed in detail.

Semiconductor Optical Amplifier Pattern Effect Suppression Using a Birefringent Fiber Loop [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2010
The capability of a birefringent fiber loop to suppress the pattern effect in a semiconductor optical amplifier is experimentally demonstrated. The results verify that compared to direct signal amplification this scheme achieves reduced amplitude modulation, enhanced eye diagram extinction ratio, pulse reshaping, tolerance to long string of spaces, low

Polarization-independent DPSK demodulation using a birefringent fiber loop

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2005
A robust polarization-independent technique for demodulating optical differential phase-shift-keying (DPSK) signals using a birefringent-fiber-loop (BFL) is proposed and demonstrated. The BFL has a differential group delay between its fast and slow optical axes, providing interference which allows the phase modulation to be converted to intensity ...

Nonlinear optical fiber loop mirror with feedback using high birefringence fiber in the loop

Nonlinear Guided Waves and Their Applications, 2004
The dynamics of a nonlinear optical fiber loop mirror with feedback using CW input and high birefringence fiber is examined. Results show dynamical behavior of the device can be controlled with different input polarization angles.

Liquid-level sensor with a high-birefringence-fiber loop mirror

Applied Optics, 2006
A novel liquid-level sensor with a high-birefringence-fiber loop mirror (HBFLM) based on a uniform-strength cantilever beam (UCB) is proposed and demonstrated. Part of the high-birefringence fiber is pasted onto the central surface of the UCB. A hollow suspending pole is utilized to apply force at the end of the beam.
