Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror with a Twisted Fiber and Birefringence Bias
2006 European Conference on Optical Communications, 2006We examine the transmission characteristics in a symmetrical NOLM using a highly twisted fiber, and a quarter-wave (QW) plate in the loop. The QW plate adjustment enables tuning the critical power over a wide range.

A flexible method based on a high-birefringence fiber loop mirror is proposed for the gain flattening of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier. The gain profile was flattened to within /spl plusmn/0.9 dB over a 33 nm bandwidth.

A novel density sensor based on high-birefringence fiber loop mirror
SPIE Proceedings, 2013In this paper, a novel density sensor based on high-birefringence fiber loop mirror is proposed and studied. The high-birefringence fiber is pasted to a ring shaped rubber gasbag and placed in the liquid. Fasten the gasbag to the bottom of the container. When the density of liquid is changed, the liquid level keeps the same.

Sensitivity-enhancing scheme of a polarimetric heterodyne sensor using a birefringent fiber loop
Optics Letters, 1990In order to improve the sensitivity of a fiber-optic polarimetric sensor, a new scheme utilizing a birefringent fiber loop with midloop frequency shifters is proposed. In this scheme, heterodyne signals with an integral multiple-phase sensitivity can be obtained in the frequency domain.
