Bacterial Membrane Vesicles as a Novel Strategy for Extrusion of Antimicrobial Bismuth Drug in Helicobacter pylori

open access: yesmBio, 2022
Bacterial antibiotic resistance is a major threat to human health. A combination of antibiotics with metals is among the proposed alternative treatments.

Use of dialkyldithiocarbamato complexes of bismuth(III) for the preparation of nano- and microsized Bi2S3 particles and the X-ray crystal structures of [Bi{S2CN(CH3)(C6H13)}(3)] and [Bi{S2CN(CH3)(C6H13)}(3)(C12H8N2)] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A range of bismuth(III) dithiocarbamato complexes were prepared and characterized. The X-ray crystal structures of the compounds [Bi{S2CN(CH3)(C6H13)}3] (1) and [Bi{S2CN(CH3)- (C6H13)}3(C12H8N2)] (2) are reported.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Bismuth-coated 80S15C bioactive glass scaffolds for photothermal antitumor therapy and bone regeneration

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2023
Background: Malignant bone tumors usually occur in young people and have a high mortality and disability rate. Surgical excision commonly results in residual bone tumor cells and large bone defects, and conventional radiotherapy and chemotherapy may ...

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Carrier Mobility of Bismuth-Doped Perovskite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
As renewable energy increasingly becomes a priority around the world, the demand for inexpensive, efficient solar cells is greater than ever. Lead halide perovskites show promising potential, but have their share of drawbacks that could be improved ...

An attempt to obtain Bi_{4}Ti_{3}O_{12}-PVC textured ceramics-polymer composites

open access: yes, 2013
Bi_{4}Ti_{3}O_{12}-PVC composites were fabricated. Ceramics powders of bismuth titanate were prepared by the sol-gel method using bismuth nitrate pentahydrate Bi(NO_{3})_{3} \cdot 5H_{2}O and tetrabutyl titanate Ti(CH_{3}(CH_{2})_{3}O)_{4} as precursors.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Crystal Symmetry Breaking in Few-Quintuple Bismuth Telluride Films: Applications in Nanometrology of Topological Insulators

open access: yes, 2010
We report results of micro-Raman spectroscopy investigation of the "graphene-like" mechanically exfoliated single-crystal bismuth telluride films with the thickness ranging from a few-nm-range to bulk limit.
