Bivalve mollusks in Ulsan Bay (Korea) [PDF]
The bivalve molluscan fauna of Ulsan Bay, East Sea coast of Korea, is summarized, based on original and literature data. The fauna consists of 61 species belonging to 20 families. Seven species are identified only to genus level. Two species (Carditellopsis toneana (Yokoyama, 1922), Carditidae and Fulvia hungerfordi (G.B. Sowerby III, 1901), Cardiidae)

Identification of the autophagy pathway in a mollusk bivalve, Crassostrea gigas [PDF]
The Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, is a mollusk bivalve commercially important as a food source. Pacific oysters are subjected to stress and diseases during culture. The autophagy pathway is involved in numerous cellular processes, including responses to starvation, cell death, and microorganism elimination. Autophagy also exists in C.

Review of the fauna associated with wild and farmed mussels and oysters in the Mediterranean
ABSTRACT Mussels and oysters are important ecosystem engineers which modify the physical and chemical characteristics of the environment and create habitats that support highly diverse associated communities. In the Mediterranean Sea, the native Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis and the European flat oyster Ostrea edulis, together the ...

Estuarine benthic diversity declines with temperature across a tropical–temperate gradient
Estuarine benthic sediments are important habitats that support ecosystem health and productivity, but the drivers of large‐scale patterns in benthic diversity are not well documented. Using 18S amplicon sequencing of 425 sediment DNA samples from estuaries spanning 20° of latitude along Australia's east coast, we assessed tropical–temperate patterns ...

Natural actomyosin from B. bengalensis exhibited maximum solubility (∼69.9%) at 40°C and stability near neutral pH, with minimum solubility at pH 4. Surface hydrophobicity and emulsifying activity peaked at 50°C, whereas Ca2+‐ATPase and foaming peaked at 40°C. DSC and SDS–PAGE confirmed denaturation above 40°C.

Peripheral sensory neurons govern development of the nervous system in bivalve larvae
Recent findings regarding early lophotrochozoan development have altered the conventional model of neurogenesis and revealed that peripheral sensory elements play a key role in the initial organization of the larval nervous system.

This study reports the exceptional preservation of the Eocene freshwater bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis from Hokkaido, Japan. Multimodal analyses reveal that both the aragonitic shell mineralogy and the delicate organic periostracum retain their original structural and chemical characteristics after millions of years.
