Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Opening the Leontief's black box
The paper attempts to reconstruct what goes on inside the black box of the fixed proportions production function underlying the matrix of technical coefficients in the famous Leontief's input–output analysis.

An ADMM Based Framework for AutoML Pipeline Configuration
We study the AutoML problem of automatically configuring machine learning pipelines by jointly selecting algorithms and their appropriate hyper-parameters for all steps in supervised learning pipelines.

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Grey Box Data Refinement [PDF]
We introduce the concepts of grey box and display box data types. These make explicit the idea that state variables in abstract data types are not always hidden.

Black-box Hamiltonian simulation and unitary implementation
We present general methods for simulating black-box Hamiltonians using quantum walks. These techniques have two main applications: simulating sparse Hamiltonians and implementing black-box unitary operations.

Abstract Summary: A better understanding of the mechanisms by which tumor rejection succeeds and fails is needed to improve immunotherapies. Here, Anagnostou and colleagues find that mutations predicted to be the most immunogenic are preferentially lost when cancer progresses through checkpoint blockade. Cancer Discov; 7(3); 250–1. ©2017

The PI3Kδ inhibitor roginolisib (IOA‐244) preserves T‐cell function and activity
Identification of novel PI3K inhibitors with limited immune‐related adverse effects is highly sought after. We found that roginolisib and idelalisib inhibit chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells and Treg suppressive functions to similar extents, but roginolisib affects cytotoxic T‐cell function and promotion of pro‐inflammatory T helper subsets to a

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
