REPRODUCTIVE TRAITS OF BLACK SLAVONIAN PIG - ENDANGERED BREED
Black Slavonian pig is an autochtonous Croatian breed originated by crossing of the breeds Mangulica, Berkshire and Poland Chine at the end of 19th and beginning of 20th century. It belongs to the group of fat-meaty breeds. Due to a small number of the animals (153 sows, 45 gilts and 15 boars – Report HSSP, 2000) it is subjected to extinction danger ...

Genetic parameters and trends for litter size in Black Slavonian pigs
Genetic progress in litter size in local pig breeds is limited mainly due to low heritability and inbreeding depression. After increase of population size of Black Slavonian (BS) pig breed in recent years, there is opportunity to renew a breeding programme including some new breeding goals related to litter size.
