Investigating cannibalistic millisecond pulsar binaries using MESA: New constraints from pulsar spin and mass evolution [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 693, A314 (2025)
Compact binary millisecond pulsars (MSPs) with orbital periods $\lesssim1$d are key to understanding binary evolution involving massive neutron stars (NSs). Due to the ablation of the companion by the rapidly spinning pulsar, these systems are also known as spiders and categorized into two main branches: redbacks (RBs; companion mass in the range of 0 ...

Causes and consequences of divorce in a long‐lived socially monogamous bird

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 27, Issue 12, December 2024.
In socially monogamous species, sexual selection involves both initial mate choice and mate switching. We found that divorce in Seychelles warblers occurs most among young and old males, and in pairs with short pair‐bond duration and low reproductive success.

Stone Babies: A Pictorial Essay With Insights From 25 Museal Lithopaedions

open access: yesBirth Defects Research, Volume 116, Issue 11, November 2024.
ABSTRACT Background Lithopaedion, or “stone baby,” represents an exceptionally rare clinical phenomenon with fewer than 350 documented cases existing in the medical literature. This condition arises when an advanced extrauterine pregnancy ceases its developmental trajectory and undergoes a lithification process, potentially resulting in a calcified ...

Millisecond pulsars phenomenology under the light of graph theory [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 692, A187 (2024)
We compute and apply the minimum spanning tree (MST) of the binary millisecond pulsar population, and discuss aspects of the known phenomenology of these systems in this context. We find that the MST effectively separates different classes of spider pulsars, eclipsing radio pulsars in tight binary systems either with a companion with a mass in the ...
