Materials for breeding blankets [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Materials, 1996
There are several candidate concepts for tritium breeding blankets that make use of a number of special materials. These materials can be classified as Primary Blanket Materials, which have the greatest influence in determining the overall design and performance, and Secondary Blanket Materials, which have key functions in the operation of the blanket ...

Blanket materials for dt fusion reactors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Materials, 1981
Abstract This paper presents an overview of the critical materials issues that must be considered in the development of a tritium breeding blanket for a tokamak fusion reactor that operates on the D-T-Li fuel cycle. The primary requirements of the blanket system are identified and the important criteria that must be considered in the development of ...

AEROGEL BLANKET INSULATION MATERIALS FOR CRYOGENIC APPLICATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
Aerogel blanket materials for use in thermal insulation systems are now commercially available and implemented by industry. Prototype aerogel blanket materials were presented at the Cryogenic Engineering Conference in 1997 and by 2004 had progressed to full commercial production by Aspen Aerogels.

Performance of Insulating Materials for Future Fusion Blankets [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
In all fusion reactors using the deuterium-tritium fuel cycle, a large fraction (~80%) of the fusion energy will be released as ~14 MeV neutrons. These neutrons must be slowed down in a relatively thick blanket surrounding the plasma and their kinetic energy converted to high temperature heat.

ITER solid breeder blanket materials database [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The databases for solid breeder ceramics (Li{sub 2},O, Li{sub 4}SiO{sub 4}, Li{sub 2}ZrO{sub 3} and LiAlO{sub 2}) and beryllium multiplier material are critically reviewed and evaluated. Emphasis is placed on physical, thermal, mechanical, chemical stability/compatibility, tritium, and radiation stability properties which are needed to assess the ...

Recent advances in the development of solid breeder blanket materials [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Materials, 1984
Increasing attention in breeder blanket development has been given to the lithium-containing ceramic materials. The most promising of these materials include Li2O, Li8ZrO6, Li4SiO4, and γ-LiAlO2. Recent studies have focused on Li2O because of its high tritium breeding potential and good thermal characteristics.

The interaction of fast neutrons with shielding and fusion blanket materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
In the present work the neutron emission spectra from a graphite cube, and from natural uranium, lithium fluoride, graphite, lead and steel slabs bombarded with 14.1 MeV neutrons were measured to test nuclear data and calculational methods for D - T fusion reactor neutronics.

CONCEPTUAL DESIGN OF BLANKET MATERIALS TEST MODULES FOR A-FNS

open access: yesCONCEPTUAL DESIGN OF BLANKET MATERIALS TEST MODULES FOR A-FNS
Advanced Fusion Neutron Source (A-FNS) is based on a 40 MeV, 125 mA deuteron accelerator with liquid Li target. Now, we are performing conceptual designs of A-FNS and its test modules. A-FNS provides 8 kinds of test modules for fusion reactor materials.
