The Blast Fungus Decoded:Genomes in Flux [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Plant disease outbreaks caused by fungi are a chronic threat to global food security. A prime case is blast disease, which is caused by the ascomycete fungus Magnaporthe oryzae (syn.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Antifungal activities of bacteria producing bioactive compounds isolated from rice phyllosphere against Pyricularia oryzae

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection Research, 2019
Rice blast is the main disease of rice plants in Indonesia and several countries worldwide. Controlling this disease using chemical fungicides has harmful effects on the environment.

Virulence- and signaling-associated genes display a preference for long 3′UTRs during rice infection and metabolic stress in the rice blast fungus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Generation of mRNA isoforms by alternative polyadenylation (APA) and their involvement in regulation of fungal cellular processes, including virulence, remains elusive.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Molecular breeding approaches for sustainable rice blast management: recent advances and challenges

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Rice (Oryza sativa. L) is a staple crop globally, but blast disease caused by fungal pathogens Magnaporthe oryzae is one of the most devastating and results in severe economic losses in rice production worldwide.

Evolution and adaptation of Magnaporthe grisea populations in upland rice in Madagascar [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In Vakinankaratra , where irrigated rice has been cultivated for several hundred years, blast damages increased heavily in the newly developed upland rice.

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

OsMAPKKK69 Negatively Regulates Resistance to Blast and Bacterial Blight Diseases in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

open access: yesPlants
Rice blast is one of the main diseases of rice, causing severe economic losses to agricultural production; thus, the search for blast resistance is a top priority for rice breeding.
