Breaking the Surface: Buoyant Metal–Polymer Open–Cell Hybrid Lattice Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Open‐cell metal–polymer lattice metamaterials that defy sinking. (a) Injection process of the polyurethane (PU) foam into the titanium (Ti‐6Al‐4V) hollow‐strut lattice creating the open‐cell Ti‐6Al‐4V+PU hybrid lattice, (b) flotation test of a hybrid lattice specimen, and (c) a digital representation and experimental validation of a marine buoy ...

Textile‐Based Capacitive Pressure Sensors Enabled by Ultrasonic Spray‐Coated Carbon Black Electrodes and Electrostatic Flocking

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A 4‐layer Kevlar‐based composite is fabricated by combining ultrasonic spraying and electrostatic flocking. Carbon black dispersion is first deposited onto Kevlar fabric to create a conductive electrode. Nylon fibers are then electrostatically flocked onto the coated fabric, forming a dielectric layer.

Multimodal Locomotion in Insect‐Inspired Microrobots: A Review of Strategies for Aerial, Surface, Aquatic, and Interfacial Motion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review identifies key design considerations for insect‐inspired microrobots capable of multimodal locomotion. To draw inspiration, biological and robotic strategies for moving in air, on water surfaces, and underwater are examined, along with approaches for crossing the air–water interface.

Analysis of Blast Wave Parameters Depending on Air Mesh Size

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2018
Results of numerical simulations of explosion events greatly depend on the mesh size. Since these simulations demand large amounts of processing time, it is necessary to identify an optimal mesh size that will speed up the calculation and give adequate ...

An Investigation into the Performance of Bottom Air-Deck Method in the Presence of Water, Using SPH-FEM [PDF]

open access: yesAnalytical and Numerical Methods in Mining Engineering
The use of the bottom air-deck method in open-pit blasting has been widely accepted by researchers as an efficient technique. In this method, leaving an empty space (air-deck) at the bottom of the blast hole improves the blast results.

Pre‐Regenerative Endothelial Cells Empowered by Antler Blood Exosomes Orchestrate Peripheral Nerve Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The pre‐regenerative vascular niche (PVN) is essential for nerve repair, yet its endothelial blueprint remains unclear. We identified angiogenic ECs (AECs) as the dominant pre‐regenerative subset and found that antler blood–derived exosomes (AB‐EXO) promote repair via IMP3.

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

Analysis and Numerical Simulation on the Reduction Effect of Stress Waves Caused by Water Jet Slotting Near Blasting Source

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2016
As one of the most serious “side effects” of blast excavation, blast-induced vibration must be controlled for existing buildings and human beings. This paper proposes a method for blast-induced vibration reduction with water jet assistance according to ...
