Rotational locomotion by the cockroach Blattella germanica

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1981
Abstract Locomotion on complex substrata can be expressed in a plane by two geometric components of body movement: linear locomotion and rotational locomotion. This study examined pure rotation by analysing the geometry of leg movements and stepping patterns during the courtship turns of male Blattella germanica .

Aspergillosis in German cockroach Blattella germanica (L.) (Blattoidea: Blattellidae)

Mycopathologia, 1997
Natural infection of Aspergillus flavus was observed in adults of Blattella germanica. Though the adult insects exhibited no external symptoms, they became hypoactive and later died. The dead and experimentally infected insects repeatedly yielded Aspergillus flavus in culture on Czapek's medium. Direct microscopic observation of the tissues of infected

Hydramethylnon Uptake by Blattella germanica (Orthoptera: Blattellidae) by Coprophagy

Journal of Economic Entomology, 1991
Blattella germanica (L.) that were fed hydramethylnon bait produced residues that were toxic to exposed conspecifics. Insecticidal activity was traced to the feces of treated insects by feeding radiolabeled material, where approximately 50% of the recovered radioactivity was unmetabolized parent compound.

General Food Semiochemicals Attract Omnivorous German Cockroaches, Blattella germanica

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2011
Stale beer and peanut butter are effective baits for the German cockroach (GCRs), Blattella germanica (L.) (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae). In still-air arena olfactometer experiments it was previously shown that headspace volatile extracts of peanut butter and solvent extract of beer attract male GCRs.

Bacteriocyte population growth in Blattella germanica.

Journal of submicroscopic cytology and pathology, 2003
The number of bacteriocytes with nucleus in the M or S phase was analysed in relation to their rate of increase, throughout two nymphal instars (N1 and N6) of Blattella germanica Linnaeus (Blattaria, Blattellidae). We treated the experimental specimens with colcemid in order to visualize C-metaphases, and with labelled thymidine in order to evidence ...

Agonistic Behavior in the German Cockroach, Blattella germanica

Zeitschrift für Tierpsychologie, 1975
Agonistic behavior in Blattella germanica is delineated with an emphasis on fighting techniques and population factors affecting aggressiveness. Male-male, male-female, and male-male encounters are not significantly different in either level of aggressiveness or frequency.

[Genetic control of Blattella germanica].

Angewandte Parasitologie, 1978
Based on a literature survey, the possibilities of a genetic control of the German cockroach (Blattella germanica) are shown. First, an oversight is given on the cytogenetics of the German cockroach, including some important mutations. Then the control methods by genetic mechanisms are explained.
