Radio-to-γ-Ray, Broadband Variability Study of the Classical BL Lac Object PKS 0735+178

open access: yesGalaxies, 2016
The power-law shape of the power spectral density (PSD) of blazar light curves— P ( ν k ) ∝ ν k − β , where ν k is the temporal frequency—indicates that blazar variability is, in general, of the colored-type noise ( β ≃ 1 − 3 )

First Results on Long-Term Multiwavelength Variability Analysis in Mrk 421

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
Due to the broad-band nature of the emission from blazars, strong efforts are being placed in recent years on simultaneous multiwavelength campaigns as a way to understand the mechanisms responsible for the acceleration of ultra-relativistic particles in

Study of Variability in Long-term Multiwavelength Optical Lightcurves of Blazar AO 0235+164

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
We present a long-term and intraday variability study of optical multiwaveband ( U BV RI ) data from the blazar AO 0235+164 collected by various telescopes for ∼44 yr (1975–2019).

Turbulent Cell Interpretation of Micro-Variability of BL Lacertae: Polarization

open access: yesGalaxies
We present the results of the analysis of nine polarization and micro-variability observations of BL Lacertae using a turbulent cell model. We perform a similar analysis of a simulated TEMZ light curve generated with the Turbulent Extreme Multi-Zone ...

Multi-wavelength Study of Blazars Using Variability as a Tool [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2016
Active galactic nuclei (AGN) are too compact to be resolved by any existing optical telescope facility, making it difficult to understand their structure and the emission processes responsible for their huge energy output.

Variability in blazars

open access: yesAstroparticle Physics, 1999
The kinetic energy of bulk relativistic plasma ejected from the central engine of blazars is converted into nonthermal particle energy in the comoving frame through a process of sweeping up material from the surrounding medium. The resulting deceleration of the bulk plasma introduces a number of effects which must be included in blazar modeling.

A new sample of faint Blazar cAndidates with Strong opticAl variabiLiTy (BASALT)

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We present a sample of blazar candidates from the Very Large Array Sky Survey (VLASS) catalog, with cross-referencing to optical and infrared data from the Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) and the Wide-Field Infrared Survey

Multiwavelength analysis of the variability of the blazar 3C 273. [PDF]

open access: yesMon Not R Astron Soc, 2020
ABSTRACT We present multiwavelength light curves and polarimetric data of the Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar 3C 273 over 8 yr. The wavelength range of our data set extends from radio to gamma-rays. We found that the optical emission in this source is dominated by the accretion disc during the entire time-frame of study.

Numerical Simulations of Blazar Jets and their Non-thermal Radiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In the past years relativistic (magneto)hydrodynamic simulations have been used extensively to study the time-dependent hydrodynamic properties of extra galactic jets.
