Impaired platelet function in Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome associated with novel mutations in HPS3, HPS6 and HPS8 genes

open access: yesBleeding, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology
We report three unrelated cases of Hermansky-Pudlak (HP) characterized by novel mutations in HPS3 (compound heterozygosity for c.1457G>A and c.1813G>T), HPS6 (homozygous c.210_211insGGGCC), and HPS8 (homozygous c.299dupC in BLOC1S3) genes.

A Pharmacist-Managed Hydroxyurea Prescribing Protocol Improves Uptake and Optimization among Patients with Sickle Cell Disease

open access: yesAdvances in Hematology
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a common genetic disorder with potentially serious sequelae that can be effectively treated with hydroxyurea. Despite its favorable benefit-risk profile, hydroxyurea uptake in patients with SCD is low.

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Multi‐omic characterization of consensus molecular subtype 1 (CMS1) colorectal cancer with dampened immune response improves precision medicine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study highlights the importance of multi‐omic analyses in characterizing colorectal cancers. Indeed, our analysis revealed a rare CMS1 exhibiting dampened immune activation, including reduced PD‐1 expression, moderate CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, and suppressed JAK/STAT pathway.

Chimeric diphtheria toxin–CCL8 cytotoxic peptide for breast cancer management

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
DTCCL8 is a recombinant fusion toxin that targets cancer cells expressing chemokine receptors. By combining diphtheria toxin with CCL8, DTCCL8 binds to multiple receptors on tumor cells and induces selective cytotoxicity. This strategy enables receptor‐mediated targeting of cancer and may support the development of chemokine‐guided therapeutics ...

Predicting value of HE4 and CA125 markers for optimal cytoreductive surgery in ovarian cancer patients

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Translational Myology, 2022
We conducted a cross-sectional study to evaluate the role of serum levels of CA125 and HE4 in predicting optimal cytoreductive surgery. Eligible women who had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer based on both clinical and imaging criteria were enrolled ...
