Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

The role of conflict & negotiation in the complexity of projects

open access: yes, 2012
Projects are pervasive and disparate spanning a plethora of domains. Most projects are unified by certain characteristics regardless of the sector or industry to which they belong i.e.

Deriving metrics for relating complexity measures to software maintenance costs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Managers of software maintenance functions know that maintenance costs often increase with the age of software, and that maintenance costs are frequently proportional to software complexity. When the service to expense ratio degrades, sometimes a rewrite

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

ABC - A Block Cipher

open access: yes, 2002
The author proposes a block cipher wich is easy to implement in software on modern 32 bit microprocessorsThe building blocks of the cipher are from the block ciphers MMB and SAFER. The cipher may be expanded for use with future 64 bit processors.

Homocoupling of C 1 building blocks by a heterometallic Mg–Al complex

open access: yesDalton Transactions
A heterometallic magnesium–aluminium hydride complex is reported for the selective homologation of C 1 building blocks (CO and CNXyl, Xyl = 2,6-Me 2 C 6 H 3 ) to form ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Urban identity through quantifiable spatial attributes: Coherence and dispersion of local identity through the comparative analysis of building block plans

open access: yes, 2007
The present analysis investigates whether and to what degree quantifiable spatial attributes, as expressed in plan representations, can capture elements related to the experience of spatial identity.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.
