Reduced-rate block truncation coding of images using error diffusion

IEEE Signal Processing Letters, 1995
We consider a simple modification to classical block truncation coding (BTC) that may permit the use of larger block sizes for some applications. although BTC is favored for its simple encoding and decoding, its disadvantage is the relatively low compression ratio achieved.

Variable Error

Journal of Motor Behavior, 1983
The degree to which blocked (VE) data satisfies the assumptions of compound symmetry required for a repeated measures ANOVA was studied. Monte Carlo procedures were used to study the effect of violation of this assumption, under varying block sizes, on the Type l error rate. Populations of 10,000 subjects for each of two groups, the underlying variance-

Block Error Rate Analysis of Short-Packet NOMA Communications with Imperfect SIC

2020 IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC), 2020
In this paper, we study the cellular internet of things (IoT) with multi-user short-packet communications. To achieve low-latency as well as a high spectral efficiency, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique is adopted. Considering the practical scenario with imperfect successive interference cancellation, this paper provides a detailed ...

Symbol Error Rate of Binary Block Codes

1983
Symbol error rate versus error probability for the binary symmetric channel is evaluated for perfect binary codes, i.e. repetition codes (2m+1, 1, 2m+1), Hamming codes (2m−1, 2m−1−m, 3) and Golay code (23, 12, 7), and for the parity check codes (n+1, n, 2).

Impact evaluation of logic blocks configuration on FPGA's soft error rate estimation

2016 IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (ICECS), 2016
The Soft Error Rate (SER) of an electronic system depends on its sensitivity to the transient faults on its internal elements. Therefore, the SER is commonly estimated by injecting faults into these elements, using a uniform fault distribution. Although this approach can adequately support a feasibility or a compliance analysis, a more accurate ...

Decoding linear block codes for minimizing word error rate (Corresp.)

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1979
Two modifications of the basic correlation decoding approach are presented. One of them yields a nonexhaustive optimum word decoding algorithm whose complexity depends upon the "projecting" structure of the code. This algorithm is then modified to yield a second decoding algorithm which, while not optimum, has simpler complexity.

Block-error rate model for DPSK in Rayleigh- and sub-Rayleigh-fading channels

IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 2005
Wireless transmission channels experience substantial signal degradation due to irregularities in the propagation path that impact synchronization between two communicating ends. Consequently, differential and noncoherent techniques that require no such synchronization have gained wide popularity. However, the transmitted data are still highly prone to

Estimation of residual bit-error rate from the standard block-error rate data for practical extremely long SDH microwave links

Proceedings. 2004 International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies: From Theory to Applications, 2004., 2004
In this paper, impact of migrating the residual error performance defining parameter from the residual-bit-error-ratio (RBER) to the background-block-error-ratio (BBER), as coming out from the evolution of ITU-T standards is studied. The main goal of this paper is to point out the consequences of the introduction of the block concept with residual ...

Asymptotically minimum bit error rate block precoders for minimum mean square error equalization

Sensor Array and Multichannel Signal Processing Workshop Proceedings, 2002, 2003
We determine linear block precoders which asymptotically minimize the bit error rate (BER) of block-based communication systems employing minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalization and threshold detection. The problem is solved by a two-stage optimization procedure in which a lower bound on the BER over its convex region is first minimized, followed
