Blood Glucose Dynamics

Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics, 2008
Measurement of blood glucose concentration is central to the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes. Although there are large numbers of historic glucose measurements in individuals with diabetes, until recently there have been very few data sets that were recorded continuously or sampled frequently enough to reveal intrinsic blood glucose dynamics, or ...

Blood glucose and the liver

The American Journal of Medicine, 1959
Abstract A graphical summary of those aspects of carbohydrate metabolism herein discussed, which contribute to the regulation of blood glucose under normal and pathological conditions, is presented in Figure 9. The rate-limiting steps are drawn in a schematic liver cell (A). The normal animal with a blood glucose concentration of 100 mg.

Development of the Portable Blood Glucose Meter for Self-monitoring of Blood Glucose [PDF]

open access: possible2005 IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology 27th Annual Conference, 2005
The work outlined in this paper is towards developing a portable, economy blood glucose meter for self-monitoring of blood glucose, which has high performance-price ratio with multifunction and is attractive to the average people. Its functions include blood glucose concentration measurement, LCD display, historical records restore, calendar/timer.

Blood Glucose Control

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1981
To the Editor —The recent GRAND ROUNDS presentation entitled "Prevention and Treatment of Diabetic Complications" in the MayArchives(1980;140:691-696) is not current with (1) the literature relating to the feasibility of maintaining a euglycemic state, and (2) the reversal correlation of early diabetic retinopathy and the normalization of hemoglobin A

BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL IN MICE.

Acta Endocrinologica, 1966
ABSTRACT Multiple serial blood glucose level determinations in individual mice were performed on small blood samples (10–25 μl) using the orbital bleeding technique. Glucose was determined specifically by a known enzymatic reaction. Blood glucose determined in this way was found a parameter of high reproducibility and precision, the ...

Mechanisms of blood glucose homeostasis

Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, 1990
SummaryThe mechanisms by which glycogen metabolism, glycolysis and gluconeogenesis are controlled in the liver both by hormones and by the concentration of glucose are reviewed. The control of glycogen metabolism occurs by phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of both glycogen phosphorylase and glycogen synthase catalysed by various protein kinases and

Capillary blood glucose monitoring

Nursing Standard, 2007
This article, the first in a series of articles relating to clinical skills in nursing, outlines the procedure of capillary blood glucose monitoring. This is a convenient way of monitoring blood glucose patterns and can be a useful aid in guiding treatment changes in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, especially during periods of illness or ...

Breakfast, blood glucose and memory

Biological Psychology, 1992
The hypothesis that blood glucose levels influence memory was re-examined. The performance on two memory tests was quicker when breakfast had been taken, suggesting that the ability to retrieve memories had been facilitated. Performance on a spatial memory test correlated significantly with blood glucose levels.
