Identification of novel small molecule inhibitors of ETS transcription factors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
ETS transcription factors play an essential role in tumourigenesis and are indispensable for sprouting angiogenesis, a hallmark of cancer, which fuels tumour expansion and dissemination. Thus, targeting ETS transcription factor function could represent an effective, multifaceted strategy to block tumour growth. The evolutionarily conserved E‐Twenty‐Six

The cytoskeletal control of B cell receptor and integrin signaling in normal B cells and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In lymphoid organs, antigen recognition and B cell receptor signaling rely on integrins and the cytoskeleton. Integrins act as mechanoreceptors, couple B cell receptor activation to cytoskeletal remodeling, and support immune synapse formation as well as antigen extraction.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Could the ABO Blood Group Types be Associated with COVID-19 Mortality?

open access: yesHaseki Tıp Bülteni, 2021
Aim:Currently, it is still a matter of debate whether a particular blood types is associated with an increased risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.

Sanguine: Visual Analysis for Patient Blood Management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Blood transfusion is a frequently performed medical procedure in surgical and nonsurgical contexts. Although it is frequently necessary or even life-saving, it has been identified as one of the most overused procedures in hospitals. Unnecessary transfusions not only waste resources but can also be detrimental to patient outcomes.

Genetic Analysis of ABO and Rh Blood Groups in Brahmin Population of Uttar Pradesh, India” [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A series of glycoprotein and glycolipids on the red blood cell surface constitute blood group antigens. These are A, B, AB and O in ABO blood group system and Rh in rhesus blood group system. These antigens are genetically controlled.

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.
