Exercise, blood lactate and food intake

Independence of Blood and Cerebrospinal Fluid Lactate
Archives of Neurology, 1967A RISE in lactic acid concentration in body fluids implies altered tissue metabolism which can take two forms. If pyruvic acid rises in proportion to the increase in lactic acid, both changes can be attributed to an increased breakdown of glucose or to a decreased entry of pyruvic acid into the Krebs metabolic cycle.

Rapid micromeasurement of lactate in whole blood
Critical Care Medicine, 1984A new lactate sensor makes it possible to measure the lactate content of whole blood directly in less than 1 min, using only a 10-microL blood sample. The procedure works equally well with plasma, serum, spinal fluid, other body fluids, or tissue homogenates. The instrument is calibrated with lactate standards between 0 and 15 mMol/L.

Working memory and blood lactate levels
Neurological Sciences, 2015The accumulation of lactate in the blood after a high-intensity exercise is associated with an increase of lactate extractions by the brain. Previously, a negative influence of blood lactate on attentional processes has been observed. The present study was carried out to examine the association of high blood lactate levels, induced with a maximal ...

Blood Lactate and Pyruvate in Pulmonary Insufficiency
New England Journal of Medicine, 1966Blood lactate and pyruvate levels and lactate-pyruvate ratios were determined in 20 patients with severe hypoxemia due to pulmonary insufficiency, 18 patients having arterial oxygen tensions (pO2) lower than 50 mm. of mercury, and 8 having tensions lower than 40 mm. of mercury.

Fetal scalp and cord blood lactate
Best Practice & Research Clinical Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 2004Lactate measurements have been evaluated in intrapartum fetal surveillance for some 30 years. However, it was not until reliable, handheld, microvolume devices were launched during the 1990s that lactate became a clinical option. Retrospective data suggest that lactate determinations in fetal scalp blood are better than pH for predicting severe ...

Technology for Portable Measurement of Blood Lactate
Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics, 2003929 GLUCOSE IS METABOLIZED by cells to produce energy. Glucose metabolism involves progressive oxidation and breakage of carbon bonds. The oxidation process causes C-H and C-C bonds to be stripped of electrons (oxidized), which are then used to build ATP. The initial steps in breakdown of glucose involve conversion of one six-carbon molecule of glucose
