Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Post hospital admission blood lactate measurements are associated with mortality but not neurologic morbidity in children with cerebral malaria

open access: yesMalaria Journal
Background In children with cerebral malaria (CM) admission blood lactate has previously guided intravenous fluid therapy and been validated as a prognostic biomarker associated with death.

Use of an audio-paced incremental swimming test in young national-level swimmers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
PURPOSE: To evaluate the reliability and sensitivity to training of an audio-paced incremental swimming test.METHODS: Eight young national-level male swimmers (age 15 +/- 1 year) performed a 7 x 200-m incremental swimming test (velocities 1.19, 1.24, 1 ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Lactate analyzer with continuous blood sampling for monitoring blood lactate during physical exercise

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1991
Abstract To monitor changes in the concentration of blood lactate during physical exercise, we used an automated lactate analyzer based on an electro-enzymatic method with continuous blood sampling through a catheter. The lactate concentration was measured every 2 min; between measurements, the instrument was calibrated with a lactate ...

The Effect of Vitamin E Supplementation on Muscular Fatigue in Professional Men's Athletics

open access: yesFolia Medica Indonesiana, 2019
High-intensity exercise (3000-meter runner) contributes to muscle fatigue. Fatigue can be determined by measuring blood lactate levels. Blood lactate levels are a product of anaerobic metabolism.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
