Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

Association of left bundle branch block with new onset abnormal wall motion in treated hypertensive patients with left ventricle hypertrophy: the LIFE Echo Sub-study

open access: yesBlood Pressure, 2019
Aims: We aimed to investigate whether left bundle branch block (LBBB) is related to new-onset left ventricle (LV) wall motion abnormalities during treatment in hypertensive patients with electrocardiographic (ECG) defined left ventricular hypertrophy ...

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline

PERson-centredness in hypertension management using information technology (PERHIT): a protocol for a randomised controlled trial in primary health care

open access: yesBlood Pressure, 2020
Purpose: For primary health care (PHC), hypertension is the number one diagnosis for planned health care visits. The treatment of high blood pressure (BP) and its consequences constitutes a substantial economic burden.

Comparative Mathematical Study of Blood Flow Through Stenotic and Aneurysmatic Artery with the Presence and Absence of Blood clots [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Numerical predictions of blood flow and hemodynamic properties through a stenotic and aneurysmal rigid artery are studied in the presence of blood clot at constricted area. Finite element method has been used to solve the steady partial differential equations of continuity, momentum, Oldroyd-B and bioheat transport in two dimensional cartesian ...

The Long Term Effects of a 12‐Session Community Exercise Program on Health Measures in Cancer Patients

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To assess the long‐term effects of a community cancer exercise program on quality of life, fatigue, weight, waist circumference, physical activity levels, lower extremity strength, body mass index (BMI), heart rate, and blood pressure, across non‐metastatic and metastatic patients.

Unattended versus two attended, ambulatory and central blood pressure measurements in hypertensive patients with and without diabetes

open access: yesBlood Pressure, 2019
Objective: To compare unattended blood pressure (BP) with two attended BP, with 24-h ambulatory (ABPM) and central BP measurements in hypertensive patients with (DMs) and without diabetes (HTs).

Should we calculate arterial stiffness gradient in middle-aged women with increased cardiovascular risk?

open access: yesBlood Pressure, 2019
Purpose: The study was designed to evaluate clinical and laboratory determinants pulse wave velocity (PWV) ratio in women at the age of 50–65 years without overt cardiovascular disease but having elevated cardiovascular risk, such as hypertension ...

Underestimation of systolic pressure in cuff-based blood pressure measurement [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
High blood pressure (hypertension) is the number one risk factor for premature death. Hypertension is asymptomatic, so blood pressure must be regularly monitored to diagnose it. In auscultatory blood pressure measurement, a patient's systolic (maximum) and diastolic (minimum) blood pressure are inferred from the pressure in an inflatable cuff wrapped ...
