Aneurysm-related disseminated intravascular coagulation successfully treated by endovascular repair

open access: yesHematology Reports, 2019
Aortic abdominal aneurysm (AAA) is an uncommon etiology of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). The authors report a case of an 81-year-old male patient who presented with hematuria, intraoral hemorrhage, melaenas and ecchymosis of the lower ...

Tumor Stroma, Tumor Blood Vessels, and Antiangiogenesis Therapy.

open access: yesCancer Journal, 2015
Solid tumors generally require a vascularized connective tissue stroma if they are to grow beyond minimal size. They generate that stroma in part by secreting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a potent vascular permeability and angiogenic factor.

Simultaneous inhibition of TRIM24 and TRIM28 sensitises prostate cancer cells to antiandrogen therapy, decreasing VEGF signalling and angiogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRIM24 and TRIM28 are androgen receptor (AR) coregulators which exhibit increased expression with cancer progression. Both TRIM24 and TRIM28 combine to influence the response of castrate‐resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cells to AR inhibitors by mediating AR signalling, regulation of MYC and upregulating VEGF to promote angiogenesis. Castrate‐resistant

Establishing death in stranded Odontocetes (toothed whales) using other mammals : a pilot study : a thesis presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Zoology at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The aim of this study was to investigate and evaluate a new method for determining death in stranded odontocetes (toothed whales). The new method was using the pulsations seen in the retinal blood vessels in the place of the heart rate. The retinal blood

Symptomatic Vasospasm Refractory to Clazosentan after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage of Ruptured Vertebral Artery Dissecting Aneurysm: Clinical Implications from Two Contrasting Cases

open access: yesMedicina
Clazosentan prevents vasospasms after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). However, clinical data on patients with SAH with ruptured vertebral artery dissecting aneurysms (VADAs) are limited.

Nerves are more abundant than blood vessels in the degenerate human intervertebral disc

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy, 2015
BackgroundChronic low back pain (LBP) is the most common cause of disability worldwide. New ideas surrounding LBP are emerging that are based on interactions between mechanical, biological and chemical influences on the human IVD.

A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics approach to find potential serum prognostic biomarkers in glioblastoma patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics analysis of serum samples from GB patients and healthy controls showed that high levels of IL1R2 and low levels of CRTAC1 and HRG in serum are associated with poor survival outcomes for GB patients. These circulating proteins could serve as biomarkers for the prediction of outcome in patients with GB.

Angiogenesis: A Model of Cell Differentiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Angiogenesis is the formation of blood vessels, and is of great importance in the growth of tumours. Attempts have been made to desgin experiments in petri-dishes that mimic the 'Conditions of tumour growth. The first of the experiments is the 'matrigel'

Endoglin mediates the tumor‐ and metastasis‐promoting traits of stromal myofibroblasts in human breast carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Carcinoma‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in tumors influence cancer progression. We identified endoglin (ENG) as a key factor in TGF‐β signaling in myofibroblastic CAFs (myCAFs), linked to poor breast cancer outcomes. Inhibiting ENG on myCAFs suppressed the TGF‐β‐Smad2/3 pathway, reducing primary tumor growth and metastasis.

Homing to solid cancers: a vascular checkpoint in adoptive cell therapy using CAR T-cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The success of adoptive T-cell therapies for the treatment of cancer patients depends on transferred T-lymphocytes finding and infiltrating cancerous tissues.
