Double-Jet Film-Cooling for Highly Efficient Film-Cooling With Low Blowing Ratios
Volume 4: Heat Transfer, Parts A and B, 2008Further improvement of the thermal efficiency of modern gas turbines can be achieved by a further reduction of the cooling air amount. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the cooling effectiveness so that the available cooling air fulfils the cooling task even if the amount has been reduced. In particular, the cooling effort for the vanes and blades

Large-Eddy Simulations of trailing-edge cutback film cooling at low blowing ratio
Proceedings of the Sixth International Symposium On Turbulence, Heat and Mass Transfer, 2009Abstract For high-pressure turbine blades, an efficient cooling of the trailing edge can be achieved by ejecting a film into the flow over a cutback on the pressure-side of the blade. Here, results of well-resolved Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) are reported that match an existing experimental setup.

Effects of Oscillations in the Mainstream on Film Cooling at Various Blowing Ratios
Volume 5A: Heat Transfer, 2017The objective of this study is to understand the effects of flow oscillations in the mainstream and film cooling jets on film cooling at various blowing ratios (0.5, 0.78, 1.0 and 1.5). These oscillations could be caused by the combustion instabilities. They are approximated in sinusoidal form for the current study. The effects of different frequencies

Solution blow spun titania nanofibers from solutions of high inorganic/organic precursor ratio
Ceramics International, 2018Abstract In this work titania nanofibers were produced from different precursor solutions by solution blow spinning. Hydrophilic polyvinylpyrrolidone, hydrophobic poly(vinyl acetate) and amorphous and semi-crystalline poly(lactic acid) polymers were used with green-solvents and titanium isopropoxide as the inorganic precursor.

Abstract Effusion cooling has emerged as an advanced cooling technique for applications that function at high temperatures, especially in gas turbines. Although this technology has shown higher cooling effectiveness compared to traditional cooling schemes, it is not yet considered a sustainable application for turbine stators and rotors ...

Change of the Orbital Volume Ratio in Pure Blow-out Fractures Depending on Fracture Location
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2013The purposes of this study were to observe bony orbital volume (OV) changes in pure blow-out fractures according to fracture location using a facial computed tomographic scan and to investigate whether the OV measurements can be used as a quantitative value for the evaluation of the surgical results of the acute blow-out fracture.Forty-five patients ...

Ratio of nose blow results to intakes during the decommissioning of a facility at Dounreay
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2007During the decommissioning of a large glove box facility at Dounreay, in addition to engineering and administration controls, workers wore pressurised suits to minimise their intake of radionuclides. The workers provided nose blows after each suited operation to provide an indication of the effectiveness of protective measures. The nose blows were also

Effects of Density and Blowing Ratios on the Turbulent Structure and Effectiveness of Film-Cooling
Volume 5A: Heat Transfer, 2018Large eddy simulations (LES) were performed to investigate film cooling of a flat plate, where the cooling jets issued from a plenum through one row of circular holes of diameter D and length 4.7D that are inclined at 35° relative to the plate.

Abstract Effusion cooling is the next step in gas turbine blade cooling to get the higher turbine inlet temperature, but the interaction between the front jet flow and the rear jet flow still need to be studied. In this paper, the effect of row number and blowing ratio are studied experimentally by PSP and numerically by RANS.
