Suppressing Glycerol‐3‐phosphate Phosphatase and Enhancing Glycerol‐3‐Phosphate Shuttle Flux Crucial for High‐Efficiency Fatty Acid Production in the Fast‐Growing Oleaginous Schizochytrium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes an efficient oleaginous heterotrophic microalga, Schizochytrium, through chassis optimization and metabolic engineering, significantly enhancing fatty acid titers and productivities. It also identifies a regulatory mechanism that coordinates biomass and lipid synthesis, providing a rational target for metabolic pathway rewiring ...

Special carbon requirement of Spirulina platensis culture. [Translation from: Materialy VII Vsesoyuznogo Rabochego Soveshchanii po Voprosu Krugovorota Veshchestv v Zamknutoi Sisteme na Osnove Zhiznedeyatel'nosti Nizshikh Organizmov p55-57. Kiev, Naukova Dumka, 1972.] [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
By the industrial cultivation of blue-green algae, there very much appears the important question about their carbon nutrition. Spirulina grows within the range of pH value of medium of 8.5 - 11.0.

A Reaction‐Diffusion Frame for Accessing Metabolic O2 Fluxes in Single Microalgal Cells with Low‐Cost Wide‐Field Imaging of Nanosensor Luminescence Lifetime

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Individual Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (C. reinhardtii) living cells on an agarose pad containing luminescent O2 nanosensors are imaged with a simple wide‐field protocol of lifetime imaging. The resulting maps of phosphorescence lifetime are analyzed within a reaction‐diffusion frame to access the distribution of metabolic O2 fluxes generated by single ...

Nanoparticle‐Functionalized Cellulose Through Biosynthesis‐Only Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reports the first covalent incorporation of glucose‐modified carbon dots (Glu‐CDs) into bacterial cellulose (BC) via microbial fermentation, resulting in BC nanofibers that exhibit uniform cyan fluorescence. A 3D‐printable hydrogel (Glu‐CDs‐BC‐SA) is developed, facilitating the fabrication of fluorescent structures. This work demonstrates an

All Biomass‐Based Solar‐Driven Interfacial Evaporator for Efficient Seawater Desalination and Power Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A fully biomass‐derived hydrogel for solar interfacial evaporation is engineered through Fe3+‐coordinated assembly of cellulose nanofibril (CNF) and lignosulfonate (LS). This sustainable evaporator achieves a high evaporation rate of 1.91 kg m−2 h−1 under 1 sun irradiation and demonstrates efficient desalination.

Exploiting CO2‐Derived Carbon in Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
In this work, a carbon nanomaterial (CNM) extracted from CO2 reduction treatment is used as the conductive additive in lithium‐ion battery graphite anodes and LiFePO4 cathodes. The electrodes are produced by casting, using both sodium alginate as a green, water‐soluble, alternative binder.
