The use of parasites as biological tags for stock identification of blue jack mackerel, Trachurus picturatus, in the North-eastern Atlantic

open access: yesFisheries Research, 2017
The use of parasites as biological tags for discriminating stocks of blue jack mackerel, Trachurus picturatus (Osteichthyes, Carangidae), in the northeast Atlantic Ocean is assessed herein. In this study the following parasites have been selected as possible biological tags: Anisakis spp. (Nematoda: Anisakidae), Rhadinorhynchus sp.

Reproduction of the blue jack mackerel, Trachurus picturatus, in western Portugal: microscopic gonad analysis reveals indeterminate fecundity and skipped spawning patterns

open access: yesZoological Studies, 2022
Blue jack mackerel, Trachurus picturatus, is the fifth most landed fish species in mainland Portugal, but information on its reproductive biology is scarce. From September 2018 to August 2019, 626 specimens were collected from commercial vessels to clarify the reproductive strategy of the T. picturatus population off the west coast of Portugal.

PRESERVATION OF BLUE-JACK MACKEREL (TRACHURUS PICTURATUS BOWDICH) SILAGE BY CHEMICAL AND FERMENTATIVE ACIDIFICATION

open access: yesJournal of Food Processing and Preservation, 2007
We compared acidified and lactic acid fermented silage approaches for the preservation of blue-jack mackerel. Silages acidified with formic and propionic acids had stable pH (3.8) and low (19 mg/g N) levels of volatile nitrogen compounds (total volatile basic nitrogen, TVBN), but relatively high (82 g/100 g) final non-protein-nitrogen (NPN) values. The

A Limited Survey of Metal Content in Blue Jack Mackerel (Trachurus picturatus) Obtained from Markets in the Canary Islands

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 2018
The levels of 20 metals (aluminum, boron, barium, calcium, cadmium, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, potassium, lithium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, sodium, nickel, lead, strontium, vanadium, and zinc) were analyzed in muscle and liver tissue of Trachurus picturatus marketed in the Canary Islands (Spain) by using inductively coupled plasma optical

DETERIORATIVE CHANGES DURING ICE STORAGE OF IRRADIATED BLUE JACK MACKEREL (TRACHURUS PICTURATUS)

open access: yesJournal of Food Biochemistry, 2000
Changes in the content of histamine (Him), tyramine (Tyr), agmatine (Agm), spermidine (Spd), putrescine (Put), cadaverine (Cad) and volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) were examined during the ice storage of blue jack mackerel irradiated at diferent levels (0, I, 2 and 3 kGy).

Landmark-based geometric morphometrics analysis of body shape variation among populations of the blue jack mackerel, Trachurus picturatus, from the North-East Atlantic

open access: yesJournal of Sea Research, 2020
Phenotypic variation in fish can indicate exposure to different environmental conditions, affecting species growth and maturation rates and/or be a consequence of genetic factors that allow fish adaptation to different environments. Understanding population structure and dynamics is extremely important for the establishment of sustainable fisheries ...

New insights about the population structure of the blue jack mackerel (Trachurus picturatus) in the NE Atlantic using otolith stable isotope ratios

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2015
The blue jack mackerel Trachurus picturatus is a pelagic fish widely distributed in the NE Atlantic and also found in the Mediterranean and Black Seas. It is an economically important resource in the Macaronesian islands of Azores, Madeira and Canaries ...

Otolith shape analysis as a tool for stock discrimination of the blue jack mackerel (Trachurus picturatus) in the northeast Atlantic

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2016
The stock structure of the blue jack mackerel, Trachurus picturatus (Osteichthyes, Carangidae), in the Northeast Atlantic is still unknown. The knowledge of this important aspect of the species population dynamics is essential to effectively assess their stocks and manage their fisheries.
