Nanodiamond Quantum Sensors for Probing Free Radical Biology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 45, 5 June 2026.
Free radicals play key roles in cellular signaling and disease but remain difficult to measure in living systems. Nanodiamonds (NDs) with nitrogen‐vacancy (NV) centers enable quantum sensing of local magnetic noise via T₁ relaxometry, providing nondestructive radical detection in living cells.

Targeting Myostatin for Sustainable Meat Production: Insights From Multiple Species

open access: yesAnimal Genetics, Volume 57, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Myostatin gene (MSTN), a TGF‐β superfamily member, negatively regulates skeletal muscle growth, positioning it as a prime genetic target for enhancing livestock meat production. This review synthesizes evidence from 1979 to 2025 on MSTN mutations across cattle, pigs, poultry, sheep, goats, and rabbits, emphasising impacts on yield, quality ...

Effect of heparin on in vitro capacitation of boar sperm [PDF]

open access: yesBiological Research, 2006
Chlortetracycline (CTC) fluorescent pattern, the ability to undergo acrosome reaction (AR) upon exposure to 10 microM calcium ionophore A23187 and vitality estimation were used to investigate the effect of the sulfated glycosaminoglycan heparin on the in vitro capacitation of porcine spermatozoa.

GGAs: Regulation of Multiple Sorting Pathways and Potential Association With Human Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 11, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Golgi‐localized gamma‐ear‐containing Arf‐binding proteins (GGAs) are a family of monomeric clathrin adaptors that function in intracellular vesicle trafficking. The three GGA family members—GGA1, GGA2 and GGA3—were first identified as sorting adaptors almost simultaneously by independent research groups in 2000. It is now well established that

Role of oxidative stress and antioxidants in domestic and non-domestic cat spermatozoa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Living cells, including spermatozoa, stored under aerobic conditions require oxygen to support their normal metabolism. Excessive levels of metabolites (reactive oxygen species; ROS) can cause cell damage or lipid peroxidation.

Quantification of the emetic toxin cereulide in food products by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry using synthetic cereulide as a standard

open access: yes, 2010
Bacillus cereus produces the emetic toxin cereulide, a cyclic dodecadepsipeptide that can act as a K+ ionophore, dissipating the transmembrane potential in mitochondria of eukaryotic cells.

Effects of Turine and Vitamin E on Sperm Viability, Membrane Integrity and Mitochondrial Activity damaged by Bromopropane in Fresh Boar Semen

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2016
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of taurine and vitamin E on sperm characteristics damaged by bromopropane (BP) in pig. We evaluated toxicity of BP on viability, membrane integrity and mitochondrial activity of spermatozoa. 1-BP (0, 2.

Update of the risk assessment on dioxins and dioxin‐like PCBs in feed and food

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract The European Commission asked EFSA to update its 2018 risk assessment on polychlorinated dibenzo‐p‐dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin‐like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL‐PCBs) in feed and food, based on the 2022 WHO Toxic Equivalency Factors (WHO2022‐TEFs).
