A robust algorithm for computational floating body dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
We present a non-iterative algorithm, FloatStepper, for coupling the motion of a rigid body and an incompressible fluid in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The purpose of the algorithm is to remove the so-called added mass instability problem, which may arise when a light floating body interacts with a heavy fluid.

COMPARISON OF TWO DIFFERENT MODALITIES OF BICARBONATE FOR DETERMINATION OF ANION GAP IN CRITICALLY ILL PATIENTS

open access: yesKhyber Medical University Journal, 2022
OBJECTIVE: To compare anion gap estimated through measured and calculated bicarbonate modalities to be used interchangeably in critically ill metabolic acidosis patients.

A Simulation Method to Resolve Hydrodynamic Interactions in Colloidal Dispersions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A new computational method is presented to resolve hydrodynamic interactions acting on solid particles immersed in incompressible host fluids. In this method, boundaries between solid particles and host fluids are replaced with a continuous interface by ...

The microRNA spectrum in 12 body fluids.

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 2010
BACKGROUND MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, noncoding RNAs that play an important role in regulating various biological processes through their interaction with cellular messenger RNAs.

An LC-MS/MS Method to Measure S-Methyl-l-Cysteine and S-Methyl-l-Cysteine Sulfoxide in Human Specimens Using Isotope Labelled Internal Standards

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
This is the first report describing an analytical method for quantitative analysis of two naturally occurring sulphur compounds, S-methyl-l-cysteine (SMC) and S-methyl-l-cysteine sulfoxide (SMCSO), in human body fluids using isotope-labelled internal ...

Strongly coupled simulation of incompressible fluid and rigid bodies with velocity-based constraints using particle method [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This paper presents a novel particle method to compute strongly coupled incompressible fluid and rigid bodies. The method adopts a velocity-based formulation and utilizes the linear complementarity problem for the incompressibility constraint.

The Role of Body Fluids in the Horizontal Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus via Household Close Contact [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Medical Journal, 2016
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection commonly occurs through horizontal transmission via household/close contact. Although the body fluids of patients infected with HBV are likely to play a significant role in horizontal transmission, the precise mechanism ...

The Virome of Cerebrospinal Fluid: Viruses Where We Once Thought There Were None

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Traditionally, medicine has held that some human body sites are sterile and that the introduction of microbes to these sites results in infections. This paradigm shifted significantly with the discovery of the human microbiome and acceptance of these ...

Amplification of localized body forces in channel flows of viscoelastic fluids

open access: yes, 2017
The study of nonmodal amplification of distributed body forces in channel flows of viscoelastic fluids has provided useful insights into the mechanisms that may govern the initial stages of transition to elastic turbulence.

Impact of the frequency dependence of tidal Q on the evolution of planetary systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Context. Tidal dissipation in planets and in stars is one of the key physical mechanisms that drive the evolution of planetary systems. Aims. Tidal dissipation properties are intrisically linked to the internal structure and the rheology of studied ...
