Application of microfluidic technologies in veterinary science with a view toward development of animal‐on‐a‐chip models

open access: yesVIEW, Volume 6, Issue 1, February 2025.
Other than human‐based application, it is important for microfluidics technology to be integrated in the field of veterinary science. With current but limited existing studies and experience from plenty of human‐oriented microfluidics applications, microfluidics technologies will bring tremendous benefit to the welfare and healthcare of various animal ...

Screening and Identification of Multiple Peptides Homologous to the Fusion Glycoprotein Gc of Schmallenberg Virus Able to Inhibit Viral Infection

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Arthropod‐borne viruses have been responsible for several emerging infections, causing a global issue in both human and veterinary fields. Within the Orthobunyaviruses, a novel and major member is the Schmallenberg virus (SBV) first detected in central Europe in 2011, and soon after was able to spread all over the continent by causing severe infection ...

Presentation_1_Investigation of the safety and protective efficacy of an attenuated and marker M. bovis-BoHV-1 combined vaccine in bovines.pdf

open access: yes
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is one of the most common diseases in the cattle industry worldwide; it is caused by multiple bacterial or viral coinfections, of which Mycoplasma bovis (M.

Enhancing Herd Immunity: The Indirect Immune Effects of the M. bovis‐BoHV‐1 Combined Vaccine

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is a complex illness driven by the interplay of various bacteria and viruses, often resulting in co‐infection. It stands as one of the most significant and costly challenges in the cattle industry. The development of vaccines targeting BRD pathogens has garnered substantial attention, particularly for their ability to ...

Monitoring Pathogens in Free‐Living Large Herbivores in a Nature Reserve in the Netherlands

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Monitoring and surveillance of pathogens are crucial for safeguarding animal and public health. While passive surveillance is more common for wild and free‐living animals, active monitoring improves the detection and characterisation of specific pathogens relevant to animal and public health.

Detection of bovine herpes virus (BOHV-1) infection in respiratory tract of bovines

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2020
Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) is considered commonest form of BoHV-1 respiratory tract infection. The current work was designed to study the incidence of IBR using molecular technique and antigen detection sandwich ELISA. In the present study, nasal swab samples (100) and tracheal lavages (6) were collected from bovines, which were showing ...

Seroprevalence and Associated Risk Factors of Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR) and Animal Owners’ Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) Towards the Disease in Selected Districts of East Wollega Zone, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 6, November 2024.
Cross‐sectional study was used to determine the seroprevalence of IBR, associated risk factors and KAP. A total of 384 cattle's sera samples were collected and competitive ELISA for testing anti‐gB. A total of 100 questionnaire data were collected from animal owners. The total prevalence was 70.54% at herd and 80.47% at individual cattle level.

The UL49 gene product of BoHV-1: a major factor in efficient cell-to-cell spread

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2008
The role of the UL49 gene product, VP22, of bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BoHV-1) in virus replication was characterized with respect to a putative functional interaction of VP22 with the viral glycoprotein E (gE) during BoHV-1 cell-to-cell spread. Deletion of the open reading frames of UL49 and/or gE from an infectious BoHV-1 bacterial artificial ...

Expression of interferon lambda in human neuroblastoma cells SH-SY5Y infected with BoHV-1 or BoHV-5

open access: yes, 2022
Los interferones (IFN) son componentes del sistema inmunológico innato con un papel predominante en la respuesta inicial a las infecciones virales. Los IFN de tipo I (IFN-α / β) fueron reconocidos como la primera barrera inmunológica tras la infección ...

Seroepidemiology of bovine herpesvirus‐1 in goats in south‐western Iran

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 5, September 2024.
Abstract Background Widely regarded as one of the chief causes of diseases in cattle population, bovine herpesvirus‐1 (BoHV‐1) has the potential to infect sheep and goat, making them potential reservoirs or hosts for this virus. Thus, preventive measures against BoHV‐1 in cattle should not overlook the ability of this virus to infect other animals ...
