Mechanical and chemical bonding of artificial joints

Clinical Materials, 1990
Biomaterials which create chemical and mechanical bonds with tissue, i.e. (1) non-porous materials with or without a hydroxyapatite coating, (2) porous titanium alloy (beads) with or without a hydroxyapatite coating, (3) alpha-tricalcium phosphate bioactive bone cement and PMMA cement, and (4) interface bioactive bone cement made by interposing ...

Stress in Bonded Joints

1988
To most, if not almost all, engineers adhesives are unfamiliar materials - hardly surprising given the lack of training in the subject. Similarly, very few adhesive technologists appreciate what an engineer needs to know about their adhesives in order to be able to predict their behaviour.

Testing of Bonded Joints

1987
The standard test procedures as listed by ASTM, BSI and other official bodies are essentially for testing adhesives and surface treatments rather than joints. Unfortunately, most if not all of these standard tests consist of joints in which the adhesive stresses are far from uniform.

Analysis of composite bonded joints

Fibre Science and Technology, 1982
Abstract In this paper a special 6-node isoparametric element is developed for the adhesive layer of a bonded joint. The adhesive layer is assumed to be relatively thin and behaves elastically as simple tension-compression springs and shear springs connecting the adherends.

Shaping of adherends in bonded joints

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1978
A method of analysis of adhesive bonded joints with arbitrary adherend shapes is developed and applied to their design for efficient load transfer. The formulation of the simplified physical model is essentially one dimensional. An efficient numerical procedure is developed and its applicability is demonstrated.

Structural Joints—Bolted and Bonded

2010
Abstract This chapter discusses the use of mechanical fastening and adhesive bonding, the primary methods for joining polymer matrix composites. It describes and analyzes the basic types of mechanically fastened joints, including single-hole and multirow bolted composite joints.

Basic Design of Bonded Joints

1996
Research studies have been conducted in all industry sectors on the design of bonded joints and the influence of this on joint strength and durability. Many have found their way into published texts for engineers. Lack of space prevents any more than a brief summary of such a large topic.

Composite fatigue of bonded joints

2011
This work is the analyse of the results of several test campaigns using the composite fatigue know-how to understand, the composite fatigue of bonded joints. The static stress distribution of bonded joints is also considered in order to understand the behaviour choosing the best descriptive variables.
