The neural mechanisms and circuitry of the pair bond [PDF]

open access: yesNature Reviews Neuroscience, 2018
Love is one of our most powerful emotions, inspiring some of the greatest art, literature and conquests of human history. Although aspects of love are surely unique to our species, human romantic relationships are displays of a mating system characterized by pair bonding, likely built on ancient foundational neural mechanisms governing individual ...

Dissimilar Resistance Spot Weld of Ni-Coated Aluminum to Ni-Coated Magnesium Using Cold Spray Coating Technology

open access: yesMetals
Direct fusion welding of aluminum (Al) to magnesium (Mg) results in the formation of brittle intermetallic compounds (IMCs) that significantly restrict the application of these joints in structural applications.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

TOPICAL REVIEW Progress in cold roll bonding of metals

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2008
Layered composite materials have become an increasingly interesting topic in industrial development. Cold roll bonding (CRB), as a solid phase method of bonding same or different metals by rolling at room temperature, has been widely used in ...

Study on the Influence of Surface Roughness and Temperature on the Interface Void Closure and Microstructure Evolution of Stainless Steel Diffusion Bonding Joints

open access: yesMetals
Austenitic stainless steel diffusion bonding was performed, and the effects of the surface roughness and bonding temperature on the interface microstructure and mechanism of hole closure were investigated. The bonded interface microstructure was analyzed.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

STUDY ON THE FORMATION MECHANISM OF BONDING LAYER AROUND PILE BODY IN SOFT CLAY

open access: yesCivil Engineering Journal, 2019
After jacked pile is driven into the soft clay,a bonding layer would form a around pile body,it enlarges the pile side area and increases its bearing capacityeffectively.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.
