The history, evolution and basic science of osteotomy techniques. [PDF]
Osteotomy techniques date back to Hippocrates circa 415 BC (Jones Hippocrates collected works I, Harvard University Press, Cambridge, 2006; Brorson in Clin Orthop Relat Res 467(7):1907-1914, 2009).

Suppression of mammalian bone growth by membrane transport inhibitors [PDF]
Bone lengthening during skeletal growth is driven primarily by the controlled enlargement of growth plate (GP) chondrocytes. The cellular mechanisms are unclear but membrane transporters are probably involved.

Residual bone growth after lengthening procedures
The prognosis of limb length discrepancy is a major subject in paediatric orthopaedic surgery. The strategy depends on the prognosis and must be adapted to each patient. The residual growth of the lengthened segment often remains unknown, but is dependent on age, the percentage of lengthening and other factors. Using a large cohort of 150 children who

Growth Plate Injuries of the Lower Extremity: Case Examples and Lessons Learned. [PDF]
BackgroundThe presence of growth plates at the ends of long bones makes fracture management in children unique in terms of the potential risk of developing angular deformities and growth arrest.Materials and methodsWe discuss three distinct cases ...

ABSTRACT Background Cyclophosphamide (CY) is associated with potentially fatal cardiotoxicity, yet no electrocardiographic indices have been established for early detection of CY‐induced cardiomyopathy. This study aimed to determine whether corrected QT interval (QTc) prolongation can predict early onset of CY‐related cardiac dysfunction in pediatric ...

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Management of infected non-union of subtrochanteric fracture: Two cases
Infected non-union of subtrochanteric fractures is challenging to treat. We experienced two cases and had good clinical results. Treatment strategy comprised debridement without hesitation after considering later limb lengthening; insertion of the ...
