Random boolean networks are defined and used as models of systems composed of many interacting components. Computer simulations showing the organization of these networks in subnets, as well as a temporal organization in limit cycles are reported. The influence of the different boolean laws on this organization is investigated and results concerning ...

Evolving Critical Boolean Networks
2019Random Boolean networks are a widely acknowledged model for cell dynamics. Previous studies have shown the possibility of achieving Boolean networks with given characteristics by means of evolutionary techniques. In this work we make a further step towards more biologically plausible models by aiming at evolving networks with a given fraction of active

Nominal Boolean network is a kind of Boolean network, which is obtained from a Boolean control network with all controls disconnected. In this paper, the relationship between the transition matrix of the original Boolean control network and the transition matrix of the corresponding nominal Boolean control network is investigated.

In this chapter we give a brief introduction to random Boolean networks. This a topic of considerable current interest and the results are abundant, so a detailed discussion is beyond the scope of this book. What we present here are just the basics.

Learning in feedforward Boolean networks
Physical Review A, 1990We investigate, in detail, the learning process in a feedforward Boolean network. Such a network transforms a set of n binary inputs into a binary output, i.e., it implements an n-variable Boolean function. If the network is constructed at random, the various possible Boolean functions are implemented with widely different probabilities.

Complex system theory deals with dynamical systems containing a very large number of variables. The resulting dynamical behavior can be arbitrary complex and sophisticated. It is therefore important to have well controlled benchmarks, dynamical systems which can be investigated and understood in a controlled way for large numbers of variables.

Boolean Network Games and Iterated Boolean Games
2015A Boolean Network Game is a game played on a network structure. Players choose actions depending on the actions of those in their neighbourhood and attempt to achieve some goal expressed in a modification of Linear Temporal Logic over an infinite run. Iterated Boolean Games are similar, but lack network structure.

Reduction of Boolean network models
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2011Boolean networks have been successfully used in modelling gene regulatory networks. However, for large networks, analysis by simulation becomes unfeasible. In this paper we propose a reduction method for Boolean networks that decreases the size of the network, while preserving important dynamical properties and topological features.

Towards Intelligent Biological Control: Controlling Boolean Networks with Boolean Networks
2016Gene regulatory networks (GRNs) are the complex dynamical systems that orchestrate the activities of biological cells. In order to design effective therapeutic interventions for diseases such as cancer, there is a need to control GRNs in more sophisticated ways.
