Booster biocides and microfouling
Biofouling, 2010Antifouling (AF) paints are used to prevent the attachment of living organisms to the submerged surfaces of ships, boats and aquatic structures, usually by the release of biocides. Apart from copper, organic booster biocides are the main active components in AF paints, but their use can have a negative impact on the marine environment.

To the Editor.— I would like to respond to the question regarding the Arthus phenomenon following immunization with diphtheria-pertussin-tetanus (DPT) in the QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS section (238:2307, 1977). As noted by Zack Haddad, MD, the incidence of the Arthus-type response diminished when the interval between tetanus toxoid boosters increased.
