Interannual variability of the onset of the South China Sea summer monsoon [PDF]
This article investigates the year-to-year variability of the onset of the South China Sea summer monsoon (SCSSM) and the possible influences exerted by the surface temperature anomalies over land and sea. Early and late monsoon onsets are related to the

Abstract The monsoon intraseasonal oscillation (MISO) modulates heavy precipitation during the Indian summer monsoon, but accurate rainfall simulation remains a challenge in state‐of‐the‐art models. Our analysis reveals a moisture bias in MISO using simulations from the sixth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project models.

Projected Earlier Australian Summer Monsoon Onset Associated With Faster Eastward MJO Propagation
Abstract The response of the Australian Summer Monsoon (AUSM) onset to global warming remains a critical and unresolved question. Here, using Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) multi‐model simulations under the SSP5‐8.5 scenario, we project a robust earlier onset by about 5 days by the late 21st century.

The impact of the boreal summer intraseasonal oscillation (BSISO) on rainfall anomalies in the Yangtze–Huaihe River Basin (YHRB) was found to be modulated by the stratospheric quasi‐biennial oscillation (QBO), which is reasonable for the close ...

Does the Madden-Julian Oscillation influence aerosol variability? [PDF]
We investigate the modulation of aerosols by the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) using multiple, global satellite aerosol products: aerosol index (AI) from the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) on Nimbus-7, and aerosol optical thickness (AOT) from ...

Abstract This study investigates mechanisms by which distinct intraseasonal oscillation modes drive regional persistent extreme precipitation events over South China during the rainy season. Based on periodic characteristics of 54 such events, two dominant modes are identified: 12–20‐day (type‐1) and 25–50‐day (type‐2) oscillations. Although comparable

Hemispheric Synoptic Patterns Control Rainfall and Long‐Range Aerosol Transport in the Amazon
Abstract The transatlantic transport of dust and smoke aerosols from Africa to South America is a large‐scale, year‐round process that affects atmospheric and nutrient cycling in the Amazon rainforest. We analyze daily variations in black carbon at the Amazon Tall Tower Observatory (ATTO) to investigate how Atlantic synoptic‐scale meteorology ...
