Self-Affine Patterns of Boride Layers

Materials Science Forum, 2007
In this study, the evaluation of interfaces on iron boride Fe2B growth obtained by paste boriding process was carried out. Fractal geometry is used like a powerful tool for the roughness analysis present during iron boride growth. Experiments were performed in AISI 1045 steel at temperatures of 1193K for exposure times of 2, 4 and 6 h, and 1223K for ...

Vacuum boriding of austenitic steel and the structure of the boride layer

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 1975
1. Vacuum boriding of steel Kh18N10T in amorphous boron powder at 900–1000° leads to formation of a diffusion zone on the surface that consists of borides of the (Fe, Cr, Ni)2B and (Fe, Cr, Ni)B types, and austenite and ferrite. 2. With vacuum boriding of steel Kh18N10T at 900–1000° in powdered amorphous boron the boron diffuses ...

Commensurability of the Structures of Boride Layers

Key Engineering Materials, 2011
The interaction of solid NH4HCO3 with iron, where the ammonia product has been adsorbed nondissociatively to iron surfaces at low temperatures [1] was investigated. The nitride clusters formed on steel substrates modified the surface morphology and characteristics of the substrate and influenced their adhesion during subsequent procedure of coating. In

Gradient formation of boride layers by borocarburizing

Applied Surface Science, 2008
Abstract In this study borocarburizing was used for the formation of gradient boride layers. The microstructure, microhardness profiles and the low-cycle fatigue strength during radial compression of carburized, borided and borocarburized layer have been compared.

Preferred orientation of boride crystals in the borided layers: a quantitative method of evaluation

Journal of Materials Science, 1988
A method is proposed to quantitatively evaluate the preferred orientation of FeB and Fe2B crystals, constituting the borided layer obtained on iron. The preferred orientation is expressed by an empirically calculated factor σ, which allows a fair fit of calculated with observed peak intensities by X-ray diffraction analysis of the layer (R value ⩽0.15).

BORIDE LAYER GROWTH KINETICS ON 42CRMO4 STEEL

MTECH 2023 - 4. međunarodna konferencija o materijalima : toplinska obrada i inženjerstvo površina, materijali i tribologija, korozija i ispitivanje materijala, 2023
Boronizing is a type of thermal diffusion process with primary goal of increasing the surface hardness, wear, and corrosion resistance. Wear resistance of boronized parts depends on the type of borides that form on steel surface and their thickness. This paper focuses on evaluation of borides layers that form on 42CrMo4 steel.

A kinetic model for the borided layers by the paste-boriding process

Applied Surface Science, 2004
Abstract This work is dedicated to the study of the growth kinetics of the borided layers obtained by the paste-boriding process. A diffusion model based on Fick’s laws and coupled with a thermodynamic description of the Fe–B binary system was suggested to simulate the growth kinetics of the borided layers consisting only of Fe2B phase and ...

Phase structure of boride layers on iron substrates with electroplated cobalt layers

Crystal Research and Technology, 1987
AbstractSpecimens made of Armco iron were electroplated with cobalt and then boronized with 2.2 vol% BCl3 in H2 at 1223 K. The boride layers obtained show the sequence of crystallographic phases which is (Co, Fe)B, FeB, Fe2B, substrate material.

Pack-boriding of Fe–Mn binary alloys: Characterization and kinetics of the boride layers

Materials Characterization, 2010
Abstract In this work, the boronizing of Fe–Mn binary alloys at 0.42, 0.76 and 0.94 wt.% Mn was carried out in a solid medium using the powder pack method. In this method, commercial Ekabor-II boron source and activator (ferro-silicon) were thoroughly mixed to form the boriding medium.

Corrosion Behavior of Hard Boride Layer Produced on Nimonic 80A-Alloy by Gas Boriding

Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, 2017
The gas boriding in N2–H2–BCl3 atmosphere was applied in order to produce a wear resistant surface layer on Nimonic 80A-alloy samples. The microstructure, microhardness and corrosion resistance of the boride layer were investigated. The produced layer consisted mainly of the compact boride zone (with average thickness 71 μm), including the mixture of ...
