Boride layer growth kinetics on X90CrMoV-18 steel

MATRIB 2023 - International Conference on Materials, Tribology & Recycling : Book of abstracts, 2023
Boronizing is a type of thermal diffusion process with primary goal of increasing the surface hardness, wear, and corrosion resistance. Wear resistance of boronized parts depends on the type of borides that form on steel surface and their thickness. This paper focuses on evaluation of borides layers that form on martensitic stainless steel X90CrMoV-18.

Growth Kinetics of Boride Layers: A Modified Approach

Defect and Diffusion Forum, 2008
This study evaluates the boron diffusion in the Fe2B phase formed at the surface of AISI 1018 steels during the paste boriding process. The treatment was carried out at temperatures of 1123, 1173, 1223 and 1273 K with 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 h exposure times for each temperature using a 4 mm layer thickness of boron carbide paste over the material surface ...

Wear kinetics of a two-phase boride layer

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 1982
1. The minimum wear rate in an abrasive medium is exhibited by a layer whose friction surface is a matrix of Fe2B containing 10–30% of monoboride FeB inclusions. 2. For single-phase layers consisting of Fe2B a higher (by a factor of 1.4 to 1.5) wear rate is typical. 3.

Growth kinetics of iron boride layers: Dimensional analysis

Applied Surface Science, 2006
Abstract Dimensional analysis is presented as a powerful tool in the study of the paste boriding process. In particular, a dimensional method is used to study the growth kinetics of the boride layers FeB and Fe2B. Experiments were performed in AISI 1045 steel and AISI M2 steel, to test the suggested model.

Research of boride layers growth kinetics on C15 carbon steel

International Journal of Microstructure and Materials Properties, 2014
This study reports on formation of borides on C15 carbon steel. Pack boronising has been carried out in temperature range 870–970°C with durations 4–8 h. Average thickness of boride layers ranges from 69.9 μm to 239.2 μm. The aim of this study is to investigate influence of boronising temperature and duration onto average thickness of boride layer ...

Boride-enhanced diffusion in silicon: Bulk and surface layers

Applied Physics Letters, 1999
Epitaxial silicon boride layers, located at the surface or within the bulk of single-crystal silicon, give rise to enhanced diffusion of B during annealing. A submonolayer buried boride layer releases ≈0.4 interstitials per B atom in the layer, generating a transient diffusion enhancement in the range of 10–100 for several minutes at 900 °C.

Problems in the characterization of boride layers

PLIN 2024 - Zbornik radova 15. međunarodnog skupa o prirodnom plinu, toplini i vodi
The article discusses the problem of characterizing boride layers, which is primarily based on the determination of the average layer thickness. For better characterization, an additional method based on the analysis of the change in the volume fraction of the boride phase in the cross-section is proposed.
