Precursor routes to Group 4 metal borides, and metal boride/carbide and metal boride/nitride composites

Journal of Materials Science, 2004
Precursor routes to Group 4 metal borides, as well as metal-boride/carbide and metal-boride/nitride composites, that employ metal-oxide/polymer and metal/polymer dispersions are described. The metal boride precursors were initially obtained by dispersing metal oxides in a decaborane-dicyanopentane polymer, but better results have now been achieved ...

Preferred orientation of boride crystals in the borided layers: a quantitative method of evaluation

Journal of Materials Science, 1988
A method is proposed to quantitatively evaluate the preferred orientation of FeB and Fe2B crystals, constituting the borided layer obtained on iron. The preferred orientation is expressed by an empirically calculated factor σ, which allows a fair fit of calculated with observed peak intensities by X-ray diffraction analysis of the layer (R value ⩽0.15).

Borides and boranes

Journal of the Less Common Metals, 1981
Abstract Structural comparisons between the higher borides and the boranes, carboranes and metallo derivatives suggest that there may be new borane structures. Also, if lower temperature, very high pressure synthetic conditions are tried, we may find three-dimensional boride-like structures containing other polyhedra and their fragments, particularly

Classification of borides

Journal of the Less Common Metals, 1979
Abstract Until now, the bondes, which represent one of the most important classes of refractory compounds, have not been classified completely. The effect of various factors such as the size, the crystal chemistry, the valency, the electron concentration, the electron structures of the metal and of the boron atoms and the effect that structural ...

Boride Cathodes

Journal of Applied Physics, 1950
The thermionic emission properties of the borides of the alkaline-earth and rare-earth metals and thorium have been investigated. These compounds all have the same formula MB6 and the same crystal structure consisting of a three-dimensional boron framework in whose interlattice spaces the metal atoms are embedded.
