Alloy properties and phase constitutions for ternary Ti-Al-B and Ti-B-X, quaternary Ti-10 at.% Al-B-X (where X=Si, Ge, Sn, Zr, V, or Nb) and some multi-component alloys were investigated on alloys prepared by arc melting. Ascast and annealed samples were studied by metallography, electron probe microanalysis, XRD, DTA, Vickers hardness at temperatures ...

A classification of ternary metal borides has recently been given (NOWOTNY, 1972). In the meantime quite a few well-defined ternary metal borides have been detected and characterized, particularly by Russian authors.

The crystal structure of CrB4 (ANDERSSON and LUNDSTROM, 1968) and MnB4 (ANDERSSON and CARLSSON, 1970) are closely related, although the former is orthorhombic with a = 4.744 A, b = 5.477 A and c = 2.866A and the latter monoclinic with a = 5.503 A, b = 5.367 A, c = 2.949 A and β= 122.71.
