Meristic and biometric parameters of spined loach, Cobitis taenia (L.) (Cypriniformes, Cobitidae) from Zegrzyński Dam Reservoir [PDF]

open access: yesActa Ichthyologica et Piscatoria, 1994
The paper presents the results of studies on meristic and biometric parameters in spined loach, Cobitis taenia (L.) from Zegrzyński Dam Reservoir. Body proportions were determined as well as the relations between the parameters under study and body and ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Investigating the toxic effects of boron on root and shoot growth and leaves of Triticum aestivum and Triticum durum genotypes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Recently boron is a hot topic for it is an energy source and it is widely used in industry. It is said to be the “energy of the future”. Turkey is an important boron deposit in the world besides being an agriculture country where boron deposits are ...

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Role of physical and chemical agents in plants for tolerance to boron nutrition

open access: yes, 2022
Boron is a necessary plant micronutrient that is often absorbed by the roots as boric acid. It plays an essential role in plant metabolism by stabilizing molecules of cis-diol complexes. The element is implicated in the formation and function of the cell

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Redistribution of boron in leaves reduces boron toxicity [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Signaling & Behavior, 2009
High soil boron (B) concentrations lead to the accumulation of B in leaves, causing the development of necrotic regions in leaf tips and margins, gradually extending back along the leaf. Plants vary considerably in their tolerance to B toxicity, and it was recently discovered that one of the tolerance mechanisms involved extrusion of B from the root ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Bio-Lubricants Development: The Potential Use of Boron-Containing Additives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper reports the use of boron-containing additives to improve the performance of a bio-based lubricating oil. The base oil was prepared from glycerol and oleic acid, was fortified with antifoaming agent, phenyl-α-naphtylamine, 4,4’-methylene-bis(2 ...
