Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) for head and neck tumor

ホウ素中性子捕捉療法（Boron neutron capture therapy, 以下BNCT）は，主として悪性脳腫瘍，悪性黒色腫に対して施行されてきた。2001年に標準治療後の再発耳下腺癌に対して，BNCTが世界初の試みとして実施され，放射線治療後の再照射であったにもかかわらず，重篤な有害事象を引き起こさずに腫瘍が著しく縮小した。それ以来，頭頸部腫瘍に対するBNCTの施行例は増加しており，日本とフィンランドから，頭頸部腫瘍に対するBNCTの治療効果として，重篤な有害事象は認めず，良好な局所治療効果が得られているとの報告がされている。今後，BNCTが頭頸部腫瘍の臨床現場に対して大きな貢献をするためには，原子炉を中性子源とするBNCTでは，症例数の限界がある。その現状を打破するため ...
