Bio‐based tannin‐loaded layered double hydroxides in epoxy coatings for smart corrosion protection of steel in underground infrastructure

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study presents a sustainable smart‐coating strategy for protecting underground steel infrastructures from chloride‐induced corrosion. Zinc‐aluminum layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and tannin‐loaded LDHs (LDH–TA) were incorporated into an epoxy matrix to provide both enhanced barrier properties and active, pH‐responsive inhibition.

Turning Fear of Boron Toxicity into Boron-containing Drug Design

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2019
Background: Despite the historical employment of boron-containing compounds (BCCs) with medicinal purposes, the reported cases of BCC toxicity in humans during the twentieth-century drived us towards a “boron-withdrawal” period. Fortunately, the use of boric acid for specific purposes remains, and the discovery of natural BCCs with biological action ...

Boron toxicity

Plant and Soil, 1997
Whilst of lesser prevalence than B deficient soils, B-rich soils are important, causing B toxicity in the field and decreased crop yields in different regions of the world. The highest naturally occurring concentrations of soil B are in soils derived from marine evaporites and marine argillaceous sediment.

Boron in Plants: Deficiency and Toxicity

Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, 2008
Abstract Boron (B) is an essential nutrient for normal growth of higher plants, and B availability in soil and irrigation water is an important determinant of agricultural production. To date, a primordial function of B is undoubtedly its structural role in the cell wall; however, there is increasing evidence for a possible role of B in other processes
