Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Study on Influence of Asymmetric Air Gap on Damping Performanceof Eddy Current Retarder

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu, 2023
The double-sided permanent magnet eddy current retarder, equipped with a set of magnets at a certain air gap on both sides of the conductor disk to make it rotate in the alternating magnetic field to generate the damping torque, has important ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Mathematical Modeling and Generating Method of Hourglass Worm Gear Hob’s Rake Face Based on a Rotating Paraboloid Surface

open access: yesMachines
The rake angles on both sides of the cutting edges of the hourglass worm gear hob significantly influence its cutting performance, which, in turn, plays a decisive role in the surface quality of the machined worm wheel.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Effect of diffusion of elements on microstructural, mechanical, and machining characteristics of Al7075/ZnAl4 functionally graded material with and without Ag and Pb interface

open access: yesJournal of Alloys and Metallurgical Systems
The current experimental work uses die casting, a liquid processing method, to create functionally graded material (FGM). To reduce the production of undesired intermetallic compounds, the FGM samples were created both with and without interfacing foil ...

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.
