Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

The Influence of Seamounts on the Enrichment of Rare Earth Elements in Sediments—A Case Study of the Marcus-Wake Seamounts in the Western Pacific Ocean

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Deep-sea sediments enriched in rare earth elements and yttrium (REY-rich sediments) are widely distributed on the deep-sea floor, and their formation mechanism remains elusive.

Physical Sources of High‐Frequency Seismic Noise on Cascadia Initiative Ocean Bottom Seismometers

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2020
Physical sources of high‐frequency seismic noise in the ocean are investigated using data from the Cascadia Initiative (CI) ocean bottom seismometer (OBS) network, hindcasts of wind speed, waves, and the bottom currents predicted by a regional ocean ...

Hunting for exotic doubly hidden-charm/bottom tetraquark states

open access: yes, 2017
We develop a moment QCD sum rule method augmented by fundamental inequalities to study the existence of exotic doubly hidden-charm/bottom tetraquark states made of four heavy quarks.

A prototype system for observing the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation - scientific basis, measurement and risk mitigation strategies, and first results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) carries up to one quarter of the global northward heat transport in the Subtropical North Atlantic.

A magnetic signature of bottom current erosion

open access: yesPhysics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 1988
Abstract To characterize the magnetic signal associated with bottom current erosion, we have conducted downcore measurements of magnetic texture and fabric in three cores containing known erosional hiatuses. Using biostratigraphic and magnetostratigraphic analysis, erosional hiatuses were identified for three cores from two current-dominated ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Methane release from the southern Brazilian margin during the last glacial

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Seafloor methane release can significantly affect the global carbon cycle and climate. Appreciable quantities of methane are stored in continental margin sediments as shallow gas and hydrate deposits, and changes in pressure, temperature and/or bottom ...

Report and preliminary results of RV METEOR Cruise M78/3. Sediment transport off Uruguay and Argentina: from the shelf to the deep sea ; 19.05.2009 – 06.07.2009, Montevideo (Uruguay) – Montevideo (Uruguay) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The waters off Uruguay and Northern Argentina offer the possibility to study sediment transport processes from ‘source-to-sink’ in a relatively small area.
