Electronic transport through ordered and disordered graphene grain boundaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The evolution of electronic wave packets (WPs) through grain boundaries (GBs) of various structures in graphene was investigated by the numerical solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. WPs were injected from a simulated STM tip placed above

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Muros do Mediterrâneo: Notas sobre a construção de barreiras nas fronteiras de Ceuta e Melilla

open access: yesCadernos de Estudos Africanos, 2011
There are many material cases that shape the frontiers between E.U. and Africa that deserve attention. I will consider some theoretical approaches to the fences that are being built in the territorial boundaries between Ceuta and Melilla’s enclaves ...

(An)elastic softening from static grain boundaries and possible effects on seismic wave propagation [PDF]

open access: yes
It is argued that low-frequency wave propagation shows, in most cases, very little dependence on the atomistic properties of grain boundaries if the thickness of the grain boundary is atomistically thin while the grain size is in the mm region.

Epigenetic reprogramming of lineage switching in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer cells rarely commit to a single identity. Epigenetic mechanisms and tumor microenvironment cues push epithelial cells toward flexible, hybrid states that can shift into mesenchymal, neuroendocrine, or stem‐like fates, driving metastasis, drug resistance, and tumor heterogeneity. Targeting the epigenetic regulators behind these transitions, using

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Phenomenology, Agency, and Rape

open access: yesFeminist Philosophy Quarterly, 2023
This essay engages with Cressida Heyes’s Anaesthetics of Existence (2020) on two points. First, it raises worries about Heyes’s apparent association of anaesthetic time with feminist resistance.

Open innovation: Managing knowledge integration across multiple boundaries

open access: yes, 2017
When firms involve external partners more actively in their innovation processes, managing knowledge flows across multiple boundaries becomes an important challenge.
