Exact boundary behavior of solutions to singular nonlinear Dirichlet problems

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2014
In this article we analyze the exact boundary behavior of solutions to the singular nonlinear Dirichlet problem $$ -\Delta u=b(x)g(u)+\lambda a(x) f(u), \quad u>0, \quad x \in \Omega,\quad u|_{\partial \Omega}=0, $$ where $\Omega$ is a bounded ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

A 2D boundary element formulation to model the constitutive behavior of heterogeneous microstructures considering dissipative phenomena

open access: yes, 2019
Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)CNPq: 302841/2014-8A boundary element formulation to obtain the constitutive response of heterogeneous microstructures is proposed, considering a RVE-based multiscale theory.

Asymptotics of solutions of the heat equation in cones and dihedra under minimal assumptions on the boundary [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In the first part of the paper, the authors obtain the asymptotics of Green’s function of the first boundary value problem for the heat equation in an m-dimensional cone K. The second part deals with the first boundary value problem for the heat equation

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Boundary behavior of large solutions for semilinear elliptic equations in borderline cases

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2012
In this article, we analyze the boundary behavior of solutions to the boundary blow-up elliptic problem $$ Delta u =b(x)f(u), quad ugeq 0,; xinOmega,; u|_{partial Omega}=infty, $$ where $Omega$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary in $mathbb{R}^

Boundary Spanning Behavior of Clinician-Teachers in the Classroom. An Observation Study

open access: yesPerspectives on Medical Education
Introduction: Clinician-teachers are engaged in both clinical practice and education. They positively influence student learning by connecting clinical practice and education. Most research into clinician-teacher’s dual role was performed in the clinical

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
