Origin of Stick-Slip Motion in Boundary Lubrication

Science, 1990
Molecular dynamics simulations of atomically thin, fluid films confined between two solid plates are described. For a broad range of parameters, a generic stick-slip motion is observed, consistent with the results of recent boundary lubrication experiments. Static plates induce crystalline order in the film.

Convection with Slip Boundary Conditions

2015
There is increasing interest in micro-electro-mechanical-systems (MEMS), and flow in microfluidic channels due to their applications in the electronics and related industries. In particular, at nanoscales there is increasing evidence that boundary conditions of slip type are needed rather than those of no-slip.

The moving contact line: the slip boundary condition

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1976
The singularity at the contact line which is present when the usual fluidmechanical modelling assumptions are made is removed by permitting the fluid to slip along the wall. The aim of this study is to assess the sensitivity of the overall flow field to the form of the slip boundary condition.

Navier–Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions

Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 2007
AbstractIn this paper, we consider incompressible viscous fluid flows with slip boundary conditions. We first prove the existence of solutions of the unsteady Navier–Stokes equations in n‐spacial dimensions. Then, we investigate the stability, uniqueness and regularity of solutions in two and three spacial dimensions.

A Fluid Problem with Navier-Slip Boundary Conditions

2004
We study the equations governing the motion of second grade fluids in a bounded domain of ℝ d , d = 2, 3, with Navier slip boundary conditions with and without viscosity (averaged Euler equations). The main results concern the global existence and uniqueness of H 3 solutions in dimension two and, for dimension three, local existence of H 3 solutions ...

SLIP ON CURVED BOUNDARIES IN THE LATTICE BOLTZMANN MODEL

International Journal of Modern Physics C, 2007
We present a new boundary condition in the lattice Boltzmann method to model slip flow along curved boundaries. A requirement is formulated for the distribution functions based on the tunable momentum balance at the walls, which is shown to be equivalent to the constraint on the second moment.
